About this deal

Different people approach problems in different ways, and I loved some of the wild theories that got thrown around. Not to mention, the passionate cases people make for them when presenting their case, reminiscent of some of the greatest courtroom dramas seen on screen. Special roles like the forensic scientist have access to the solution but can only communicate using special scene tiles while the rest of the group interpret the evidence. To start the game, the dastardly crime must first be committed. To do so, every player except the Forensic Scientist closes their eyes. Then, when everyone has DEFINITELY closed their eyes, the Murderer opens their eyes and points at one of each of their Clue and Means cards, making sure the Forensic Scientist can see them. The witness in deception is responsible for providing testimony that is accurate and credible. They must be able to remember the events that transpired and relay them in a clear and concise manner. If the witness is unable to provide accurate information, the case may be compromised. Deception In Hong Kong

They have no way of knowing which is the Murderer and which is the Accomplice and they do not know how the crime was committed. The forensic scientist will then try to answer some questions about the crime to help all detectives find who the killer is, and what was their M.O. and which key evidence they left behind. The forensic scientist cannot say anything else to the detectives. When the crime takes place, the Murderer chooses 1 Clue card and 1 Means card as the solution to the crime. These will be the "Key Evidence" and "Means of Murder" respectively. Other than that, Deception has made a permanent home in our game closet. What could these clues possibly mean? Will the Investigators be perceptive enough to successfully solve the crime or will the culprit(s) accomplish the perfect crime and get away with murder? If the Murderer is arrested but can identify the Witness, the Witness is considered to be killed, allowing the Murderer and the Accomplice to get away with murder and win the game. Typically at our monthly Guys Game Night we play a few different games during an evening. This month however, Deception ended up being the only game we played with the 8-person group. The Forensic Scientist announces, "Murderer, indicate the 'Key Evidence' and 'Means of Murder.'" The Murderer then points to one of their Clue cards and one of their Means cards.

After The first round of investigation, a second round will begin. The forensic scientist will draw a new brown evidence tile and will need to replace it with one of the other tiles, it may not replace the purple and green tile. Once the tile has been replaced the forensic scientist will place the marker on the evidence they wish to present to the investigators. The Protective Detail knows who the Witness is at the start of the game and can help distract the Murderer and Accomplice from who the real Witness is.

If you’re a fan of social deduction games, Deception: Murder in Hong Kong is a no brainer to add to your list. It plays brilliantly well, pulling out all my favorite facets of a social deduction game: wild theories, impassioned speeches, betrayal, deep discussion, and a whole load of making up to do at the end. The eight new scene cards also add a whole other avenue of discussion to the base game. Deception: Undercover Allies Unboxing Deception: Murder in Hong KongI don’t think we’ve ever played a game as many times before doing a board game review than we have with Deception: Murder in Hong Kong. A gruesome murder in Hong Kong has been committed, with the murderer being a member of the investigation. While the Forensic Scientist gives investigators clues about what to look for, the Murderer tries to make investigators believe they are not at all involved by presenting them with an ambiguous and seemingly contradictory set of clues. It is critical that the investigators vigorously defend themselves against false accusations. If a witness has seen the culprit flee the scene, the Witness is responsible for identifying them. He or she can identify the killer and come up with a solution to the crime. A Witness who is unable to identify a suspect is considered dead. Forensic scientists reveal their true identities while also acting as the game’s master. The graphics on the Clue and Means Cards are for reference only. Players should use their imagination based on the texts. 2. Roles
