About this deal

As such, the powers that be (or rather the biscuit-makers) have seen fit to give its flavour a make-over, replacing its much-loved centre with coconut cream, rhubarb, strawberry and even coffee. a b "Crawford's – The Oldest of the Biscuit Manufacturers", The Illustrated London News, p.727, 28 April 1923 Not since my childhood had I had the pleasure of devouring these rectangular shaped biscuits, until now. The two biscuits are simple, the creamy centre is the perfect compliment to both the taste and texture of the biscuit. There's something really childish about squeezing the bottom of the two biscuits to see if they come apart clean or if one breaks but we all do it. In 1856, William Crawford (1818–1889) bought an established bakery at 31 The Shore, Leith from Robert Mathie (1789–1863). The bakery specialised in ships' biscuits and had been established in 1813, [2] [3] with Mathie taking it over in 1817. [4]

Lisa Sibbald (2018), "Crawford's Biscuits", A-Z of Leith Places-People-History, Amberley Publishing, p.32, ISBN 9781445682068Voted in past surveys as the nation’s favourite biscuit, Crawfords Custard Creams' popularity remains undiminished by time. So whether you like to dunk them, dismantle them layer by layer, or devour them whole, you can’t really beat the good old-fashioned Crawfords Custard Cream. The original bakery on The Shore is the third building from the left in this print, showing a visit by King George IV in 1822. [1]

Custard creams are THE best biscuit in the world - ever! I have never met anyone who doesn't like them and I'm sure that's because that person doesn't actually exist. Crawfords Bourbon Creams are a perfect accompaniment during afternoon tea. Whenever I am offered a plate of biscuits or a tin of tasty biscuits, I can't pass these up. My tastebuds tend to gravitate towards the creamy chocolate fondant centre sandwiched between two chocolate flavoured biscuits. I've loved these sweet treats since my childhood and I'll never get tired of them. These Custard Creams are the family favourite. For myself I buy Ginger Nuts, but my daughter and my husband want the Custard creams. The thing about these (I do pinch one occasionally) is that they have produced the perfect biscuit to encase the creamy filling. Nothing like those ghastly puff pastry biscuits or that over-sweet crunchy type. These are (I imagine) one of Crawfords main products worldwide. PS. I used to have to fill my suitcase when on trips to the UK, but now it is so easy with BCS). Thanks. I love chocolate, but I'm not really a lover of Chocolate flavoured products at all. I remember this brand as a child. Crawfords make a large range of quality biscuits, I had no idea that they have been in the business for over 200 years. Sometime, just like Ian another reviewer like to pull the biscuit apart to enjoy the lovely chocolatey filling, it's wonderful. Other times I just dunk them into a cup of hot tea and enjoy the beautiful flavour of these bourbons. In the UK, we used to always have the large tin, I always went for the bourbons, then custard creams then the pink wafer. You really can't beat them, not overly sweet, just right to compliment the filling perfectly. They're crisp without being hard, great at any time with or without a cup of hot tea. In 1938, Crawford's carried out the first ever British national biscuit survey, interviewing approximately 5,000 households. [12]The Elbe Street factory was expanded and modernised in the 1950s but demolished in the 1990s when housing in Leith's former industrial areas started to change the area. Around 200 people lost their jobs. [ citation needed] LOVE Crawford's Custard Creams they're just right for a bit of something special without being too much. The vanilla flavour is very good, and the biscuits are just right flavorful without overshadowing the cream. I keep these around !! Crawford's Sandwich Biscuits filled with vanilla flavour cream. Filled with vanilla flavour cream. No hydrogenated vegetable oil. No artificial colours or flavours. Suitable for Vegetarians. The oil palm products contained in this product have been certified to come from RSPO segregated sources and have been produced to stringent environmental and social criteria. www.rspo.org. Crawford's.

I totally agree with a five star review here. Crawford's Custard Cream biscuits are excellent value for money, everyday biscuits. Creamy custard flavoured center between two crisp shortbread biscuits. I don't usually dunk a cream filled biscuit but custard creams are an exception. The custard filling does not melt and ruin your hot drink and it becomes even more creamy. Definitely a five star biscuit. Glasgow biscuit factory closure plan puts nearly 500 jobs at risk". BBC News. 11 May 2021 . Retrieved 24 June 2022. These delicious biscuits are particularly versatile in terms of their consumption – everybody has a different approach. There is much satisfaction to be garnered from peeling off the top layer of biscuit to reveal the layer of cream. Here at the GHI we like ours golden, and plentifully filled with rich vanilla custard filling. Firm but not too hard, the biscuit should crumble in the mouth for a satisfying bite but be robust enough to stand up to some serious dunking.I've eaten these biscuits often and they are so delicious. Crunchy chocolate with chocolate cream, gorgeous! DELICIOUS!!
