About this deal

After discovering additional flower meanings, Victoria is encouraged by Grant to make her own dictionary; he gifts her a camera to take pictures of flowers at his farm.

However, the behavior of everyone else was completely unbelievable (possible exception was the social worker). When Elizabeth tries to reconcile with both Victoria and Catherine, her nephew Grant asks her to stop, outlining his mother’s decline into a dementia-like illness. This was special, and did really suit me in the form of short intense chapters, alternating between the past and present. Just an amazing and wonderfully well written book with a full bouquet of heart touching moments to remember and treasure.

I will try to explain how this unceremonious drop around the middle of the story came to pass after introducing Victoria to you. I feel it’s only fair to warn you, dear reader, that Vanessa Diffen- baugh’s central character, Victoria Jones, is going to break your heart three ways from Sunday. Perhaps she would have total success, but the fact of the matter is that Jack feels the same deep connection to Laurie. It is about a lonely thirty-something florist and a celebrity photographer, who dreams of shooting Canadian landscapes, living wall-to-wall in an apartment building without meeting each other. There was a personal relationship with the flowers Victoria worked with and it was evident with all those who became involved in her world. The Victorian Language of Flowers - Occasional Papers volume 10, Occasional Papers of the RHS Lindley Library, volume 10, April 2013. I highly recommend this for children and even adults who want to look through a beautiful book and learn about flowers and nature. In fact what we are privileged to read is a facsimile of a handmade dictionary of flowers and herbs. Later authors inspired by this tradition created lists that associate a birthday flower with each day of the year. Kept reading because it was a choice of my book group and it actually did not take too much time - considering I'd frequently skim mention of specific flowers.

Such is the charm of this book, the colours are muted, the flowers are soft and Beatrice is a sweet fuzzy little thing. I feel like if there had been one or two more pages, then it wouldn’t have felt the need to literally tell us the story was over and could have showed it instead.Study after study il- lustrated that early relationships between caregivers and infants actually shape the circuits of the brain and lay the foundation for later developmental outcomes—from academic performance and in- terpersonal skills to physical and mental health.

The novel was inspired by a flower dictionary, a type of Victorian-era book which defines what different types of flowers mean. Laurie’s hasty decision not to tell Sarah is the second painful missed opportunity (after not getting off the bus), but Sarah’s happiness is so important to Laurie that she dedicates ample energy into retraining her heart not to love Jack.

This was a very readable book, and I read it all in a day when I was lounging around a resort in Orlando while my husband went to some conference sessions.
