About this deal

This kind of dystopic vision is common in teenage literature, to place it into a juvenile novel is brave and daring, but Welford has shown excellent judgment with similarly grown-up issues previously. In my opinion, the title of the book The Dog Who Saved The World that refers to Mr. Mash, does not reflect the storyline as the adventures are related not to the dog but his owner. It is Georgina who travels to the probable future with the help of Dr. Pretorius, a millionaire scientist who is missing from her island mansion and hides her real name -- Dr. Erika Pettersen. Dr Pretorius’ faculty of multi-sensory virtual reality (MSVR) gave her a view of the probable future. Mr.Mash’s role is limited to the point that his blood is the only option to prevent mass deaths of dogs and humans alike. When it came to the plot though, Ross Welford is a master story teller. Between the layers of heart pounding, tear spiking and edge-of-your-seat fiction, the author weaves many sensitive issues into his work. However he presents everything in a relatable, child friendly way without pushing any opinions onto the reader. It’s inspiring how he can open your mind to world, making you consider all the people and animals that share this planet with us and the problems others face. Even without the awesome writing I would applaud him for this alone!

The Dog Who Saved The World by Ross Welford Book Review: The Dog Who Saved The World by Ross Welford

The ususal Ross Welford collection of madcap characters in a Geordie setting (my Geordie accent is getting good now!). The Dog Who Saved the World is an epic, well-written, and adventurous novel. This book is set in a world where a virus, known as the CBE (Canine-Born Ebola) starts to affect dogs, humans' best friends. I enjoyed this book and I will enjoy reading it to my grandson when he's older. It is fun, realistic and full of exciting imagery that allows you to see the problems of today in a futuristic way. Revision Col 3 Collins at Home | Support for schools Home tutors Letts Revision Collins4Parents Collins Book Sale Revision for students I don’t think I’ve read any of his books yet although Time Travelling with a Hamster is popular with my class. Looking forward to reading both of these!assessment, instruction, and intervention in my classroom, as well as how I collaborate with my general education colleagues and parents. All that and I am only halfway through day 1! It’s probably unusual to have the best day and the worst day of your life within a month, especially since I was still only ten at the time. Around the corner, on the seafront, men in shorts push babies in strollers; cars with dark windows hum along the coast road; and people pedal FreeBikes in the bike lane. Ramzy nudges me to point out Saskia Hennessey’s older sister, in just a bikini, flip-flops, and goose bumps, shimmying toward the beach with some friends. I keep my head down: I don’t want to be recognized. Actually, it wasn’t the only good thing. The other good thing was that there were loads of dogs at St. Woof’s, and I liked them all. All in all, Ross Welford is one on my favourite, auto buy authors for a reason. Not only are his books all stand alone reads, but each one is set in the North-East of England (In and around the towns I was actually born and raised, winning him extra points with me!). When a poison tide flowing across the ocean threatens their island, Roz works with the resident creatures to ensure that they will have clean water, but the destruction of vegetation and crowding of habitats jeopardize everyone’s survival. Brown’s tale of environmental depredation and turmoil is by turns poignant, graceful, endearing, and inspiring, with his (mostly) gentle robot protagonist at its heart. Though Roz is different from the creatures she lives with or encounters—including her son, Brightbill the goose, and his new mate, Glimmerwing—she makes connections through her versatile communication abilities and her desire to understand and help others. When Roz accidentally discovers that the replacement body given to her by Dr. Molovo is waterproof, she sets out to seek help and discovers the human-engineered source of the toxic tide. Brown’s rich descriptions of undersea landscapes, entertaining conversations between Roz and wild creatures, and concise yet powerful explanations of the effect of the poison tide on the ecology of the island are superb. Simple, spare illustrations offer just enough glimpses of Roz and her surroundings to spark the imagination. The climactic confrontation pits oceangoing mammals, seabirds, fish, and even zooplankton against hardware and technology in a nicely choreographed battle. But it is Roz’s heroism and peacemaking that save the day. It was a very insightful experience. As a preschool teacher, I can relate to the importance of the early years, which can have a lifelong impact on our children. Thank you for bringing us to this summit. Above us, the sky is the intense blue of late afternoon, and it’s so hot that even the seagulls have retreated to the shade. Ramzy is doing his familiar shuffle-dance of excitement, and I feel I should calm him down. Some things that I did not like about the book were that I found some parts uncomfortable to read as they felt a bit fat phobic. The first description we got of the 'mean girl' character was about her size and weight. Then later, Ramzy's aunt who's main purpose in the story seems to be being strict and telling him off has her large size described as she exits a vehicle. I also I felt that some of the representations were quite stereotypical (Ramzy's aunt and the shopkeeper who is actually named Sanjeev, but is constantly referred to by the narrator as 'Norman Twokids') It started with a cough, then wheezing, then a rash on her hands. Jessica, it turned out, was completely allergic. The author did a great job with character development. It was easy to relate to the characters. Weird fact, SO MANY parallels to the Covid pandemic even though the book was published just a few months before it began. Perhaps he really does have a time machine!

In my opinion, Mr Mash should have been accorded a bigger role in the story and the author should also have explained in more detail the scientific terms used in the book to facilitate better comprehension by the readers. I became a St. Woof’s volunteer. I’m way too young officially, but Dad says he persuaded the vicar to “bend the rules.” Well? Whatcha waitin’ for? The last train to Clarksville? Come on in. Bring the mutt if you have to.”Her name – Pretorius – is borrowed from the mad scientist, Septimus Pretorius, in an old 1930s movie The Bride Of Frankenstein. Touching, silly and exciting by turns, this thrilling little book is an inventive take on time travel for children. Sure to be a hit with fans of R.J. Palacio's Wonder... an unforgettable, madcap story from a bright new talent in Children's fiction - Waterstones The Dog Who Saved The World was not “inspired” by any particular event or thought (See “Where do you get your ideas from?” below). Instead it grew by lots of thinking. It was originally a story about a girl who gained the power of precognition, but it developed into something very different.
