About this deal

Left Hand was established in 1993 by Massimo Osti, the founding father of C.P. Company, Stone Island and a number of others. On Massimo Osti’s watch, both date and sweep seconds hands have a red arrow, which is contrary to how it was intended from a functional perspective. Leonidas made more watches with a complication in the 1940s and 1950s, with steel and gold-plated cases varying in size. Osti’s watch has a diameter of about 35 mm, which was big at that time. These affordable vintage watches with some complications remain collectible. Leonidas was absorbed by Heuer in 1962. Here’s an article by my colleague Balasz Ferenczi about cool and affordable watches. At the heart of this cultural relevance is the community of long-standing CP Company fans, and particularly the casuals who kept the brand’s flame burning. “We celebrate the community, we want to keep them close, we are really part of a family,” Osti continues. “I am extremely grateful to these people — mainly from the UK — that kept the brand alive for so many years, they did it with love and passion, and without them we would have disappeared.” This group has been a focus of Osti’s plans for the brand over the last three years. “We really started from celebrating this community, and all the fans that kept the brand alive,” he adds. “We are also trying to do the same with a new generation, to get connected with them.”

Through his work at the archive, Osti met Peter Wang, who’s Tristate Holdings company took control of CP Company in 2015, with Osti joining as a minority shareholder and marketing director. When Wang asked him to join CP Company, it was important to Osti that he was there for more than just his familial link. “For a long time I had a very conflicted relationship with my father’s heritage,” explains Osti. “He was a great innovator, everyone was in love with him but to them I was just his son, a projection from him.” In the 1990s Steven Mann, Thad Starner and a team at MIT’s Wearable computing Lab 1 envisioned everyday people wearing clothes and accessories with an embedded intelligence; these concepts were initially referred to as “wearable electronics.” 2 In their published manifesto they lamented how personal computers sat on users’ desks and had not lived up to their name, stating: “A person’s computer should be worn, much as eyeglasses or clothing are worn, and interact with the user based on the context of the situation.” 3 While theirs was the first group to explore the possibilities of personal computers being fully integrated into all aspects of everyday life it was not until Philips Electronics presented their exhibition “Vision of the Future” in Eindhoven in 1995 4 that a commercial enterprise had attempted to set groundwork for a viable concept of wearable electronics that actual consumers could use. “ Vision of the Future” (1995-1996) and Redhill Laboratories (1997) For two years running (2020 and 2021), Ræburn’s self-titled brand has been awarded ‘Brand of the Year’ in Draper’s Sustainable Fashion Awards 2021, setting a precedent for an innovative future with Left Hand. There may be a relevant point in examining Deleuze’s & Guattari’s use of a nomad as a metaphor for someone who is not fixed within a structure and is free to move at will. Especially given their popularity among writers like William Gibson.

It is also pertinent to note that sometime between 1998 and January of 2001 Philips’ had started referring to the BAN as Personal Area Network or (PAN), for the sake of this article it can be used interchangeably. My life wasn’t planned to bring me to celebrate the 50th anniversary,” Lorenzo Osti explains, when he spoke with HYPEBEAST earlier this month. “My father left the company in 1993, and I chose another career, far away from fashion. But when my father passed away, I felt a duty to take care of his heritage.” Steel – an "urban armor" featuring a nylon canvas which is woven with twisted cotton and stainless steel, making it highly resistant to cuts and tears. Massimo Osti (1944–2005) was an Italian garment engineer and fashion designer, most famous as the founder of the apparel brands Stone Island and C.P. Company. Osti's products were a mix of his own innovations and design ideas he got from studying military clothing, work-wear, and sportswear.

Inspired by military grade functionality, along with their technically innovative use of fabrics based around their signature garment dyeing techniques, C.P Company has pioneered casual sportswear elevating it to high fashion street style for more than 50 years. A premium down-filled micro-ripstop crafted from a tough 10 denier nylon which combines maximum insulation and weather resistance with a glossy finish. It would be hard to find a piece of modern clothing that wasn’t in some way influenced by Massimo Osti. His spirit continues to live through Stone Island and CP Company who are constantly developing on his works from thirty or more years ago but it would be criminal to forget his other works with brands such as Left Hand and Boneville.
