Then again, you could save it until the darkest days of January when you miss the sunshine so much you can't hardly stand it anymore. This is one of those rare books that I actually got to spy on the shelves before I had heard any buzz about it.

The fact that I ended up loving the beach town atmosphere in this book was definitely a surprise for me. The boy mopes along, hovers around a bridge and spies a water-logged piece of newspaper emerge from a drain. Laid into this copy is the original thirteen page publisher's booklet (100 x 105mm) advertising the book. The publisher of this book provided free copies of the book to have their book reviewed by a professional reviewer.

A silent or wordless picture book which invites the children to look closely and use their own words to describe the unfolding story!

waverly lyons: i absolutely loved her character in the book, i related to every single situation she was in, but the fact that she thought everyone would ditch her just because she couldnt swim, broke my heart. Surrounded by a cast of teenagers and adults with their own fears and lives, Waverly’s development and newfound love for her friends is authentic and heartwarming. The page turns pull you along, as does the well-placed and not overused panels, and especially the long and narrow format. Also, she had forgotten her phone in Alaska, which was just a little bit of an absurd situation that I found hard to take seriously. Shortly after their meeting, Waverly tries to recreate her image among Blake and his friends, hoping to impress them and fit into their inner circle. This summer, the battle rages over who she’ll spend her vacation with, and when Waverly’s options are shot down, it’s bye-bye Fairbanks, Alaska and hello Holden, Florida to stay with her aunt. Rather than follow the path of a syllabus or textbook, Andrew Morris takes examples from the science we see every day and uses them as entry points to explain a number of fundamental scientific concepts – from understanding colour to the nature of hormones – in ways that anyone can grasp. I just finished How it feels to float (Helena Fox) and now feel like I have a better understanding of how hard each of us is trying. In fact, it's the best summer of his life, even if he does have to go way outside of his comfort zone. It would be one thing for her to have never needed a phone, but for her to have one and have just somehow forgotten it irked me a little.
