While not the stiffest model in our lineup, there is no denying that there are more comfortable shoes out on the market, especially for long-distance running. However, we are constantly impressed with this shoe's ability to offer a minimal responsive cushion in such a lightweight design. It is subtle but firm compression that is noticeable but doesn't feel squishy or like you sinking into the footbed. This cushioning requires a bit more effort to stay on top of when compared to the most responsive models, which is why it is our short-distance favorite. Although marked as a neutral shoe, the Echelon is constructed with a wide, straight base that offers stability. It is recommended for people with flat feet and other foot conditions as its spacious interiors accommodate custom orthotics. Is Saucony made in the USA?

This very moderate increase in firmness does make the shoe feel more like a competition shoe, but I don’t think that it is actually more responsive than the Kinvara 10 or 11.Another study out of Australia (Ryan et al 2013) found an increased incidence of injury in runners using partial minimalist footwear. They randomly assigned 103 runners with neutral or mild pronation one of three shoes: the Nike Pegasus 28, Nike Free 3.0 V2, or the Vibram 5-Finger Bikila. The runners completed a 12 week training program for a 10k race. At the end of the 12 weeks, 99 runners remained in the study. 23 runners sustained an injury, with the Nike Free group having the most injuries (12) and the Pegasus the least (4). The lacing system is easy to use and delivers an effective lacing cinch. The closed mesh and synthetic overlays are protective and effective at keeping the debris out. There’s not much competition in the lightweight 4 mm offset trainer category, but if you’re willing to look past the heel drop, there are many alternatives to the Kinvara 13. Despite being stretchy, it remains secure because of its overlays and gusseted tongue.

THE UPPER DESIGN AND FIT

The Kinvara 13 doesn’t have any reflectivity, and gets rid of whatever little low-visibility trims that the 12 had. Both the Guide and Ride have a similar ride behavior; the only difference is that the Guide 15 has a plastic stabilizer over its inner midsole. It’s a very natural feeling shoe that feels like an extension of my body. The first run was a bit of an adjustment, all my shoes in my current running rotation offer plates or extra cushioning.

The FORMFIT topsole remains a staple in the Kinvara line and further enhances the contoured and comfortable fit of the shoe. The heel-to-toe offset is, and I expect always will be, 4 millimeters Being lightweight has its pros and cons. I thoroughly enjoyed this shoe for short fast-paced runs but in this day and age of running shoes, I was left a little disappointed. The excitement I felt about the sleek and professional looks faded when I put them on and realized they are definitely a half size larger than usual. Pwrrun PB looks like adidas Boost, but it isn’t. This foam is PEBA – a much lighter and bouncier material.Except for the tiny pieces of rubber under the high-wear zones, the outsole is an extension of the foam midsole. It’s the same as last year, so there are large chevron-shaped lugs under the forefoot for traction. It will be delightfully welcomed by the runner who especially doesn’t care for a maximally cushioned shoe. Overall it is a great choice for an affordable daily trainer. Well done Saucony. The grip is average on most foam-based outsoles, and it’s no different here – the traction is sufficient for dry and wet roads, but average on smooth floors and metal drainage covers. However, the PWRRUN foam has proven to be Saucony’s most durable yet, and I was able to get 350 miles out of the K11, so I expect the same for version 12. Though the Saucony Tempus is the unofficial replacement for the Hurricane 23, the two shoes couldn’t be more different. The Saucony Triumph 20 is an awesome-fitting daily trainer with great cushioning from top to bottom. We loved running in these shoes almost daily, and the lab tests confirmed that this is indeed the best daily trainer among the Saucony squad. Not much has changed on the Kinvara 13. EU Delivery

The Kinvara 13 is a mid-life refresh. Same midsole with a slightly modified upper. A lot of same-same. The Endorphin Pro 3 is one of the lightest race shoes we’ve ever tested. At 206g (7.3 oz)—it is a whopping 61g (2.2 oz) lighter than the average road running shoe and 1g (0.03 oz) lighter than the average race shoe. Its stripped-down and minimal upper also made it very breathable during our runs. In the Kinvara 12, the pattern is updated to allow for graduated levels of flex depending on location. There’s an elastic band over the heel, and it appears to be a cosmetic trim rather than serving any function.
