About this deal

But it’s not just about Mr Broadbent, but also Ms Wilton, who starts to feel like she’s been abandoned, as well as getting the impression he’s living the life she wishes she’d led, and there’s wonderful performances from both of them. Unfortunately, the supporting cast feel forced, two-dimensional and pepper Harold's journey purely to impart information that could be taken or left behind. This isn't helped by the stunted pacing and frequent B-roll cutaways to presumably things Harold wouldn't have seen if hadn't set off on his adventure.

Overall, it's a moving drama film that's well shot, directed & written. Although it's slightly depressing, long & drawn out, it's not a bad film at all with a great lead, great side characters & story with a good message. There's some humour laced in with the sadness & hope injected in for good measure. While it's more drama orientated, it's still a good enough of a film. The film stars Jim Broadbent and Penelope Wilton cast as husband and wife Harold and Maureen Fry . These 2 veteran performers who play a couple whose marriage effectively disintegrated with their son David's suicide about 20 years previously give superb performances in what I call a very average movie. However, while he has a phone, he’s left it behind… although it’s only an old Nokia and so doesn’t have GPS, anyway. But then, despite how never having really walked anywhere, and with no way to tell where he’s going, he has a great sense of direction. How would you know which road is taking you – literally – down the right path? Again, I cannot emphasise enough the stellar performances by both leads. I'm tearing up just watching the trailer while writing this. The film is let down by its supporting cast and weird editing. This might not win many awards or get critical acclaim, but it will probably make you cry and certainly make you think about life.

THE UNLIKELY PILGRIMAGE OF HAROLD FRY is the story of an unremarkable man who sets off on a remarkable journey. Harold lives a life without purpose until he learns an old friend is dying and vows that in walking across England to see her, his journey can keep her alive. We get to see a lot of the countryside and culture of British life. One of the things I thought was especially charming was seeing how people leave their home-grown fruits and vegetables in cardboard boxes outside their fences with a sign letting passersby take whatever they needed. Bradshaw, Peter (26 April 2023). "The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry review – Jim Broadbent hits the road". The Guardian . Retrieved 11 May 2023. A film adaptation of the same name starring Jim Broadbent and Penelope Wilton was released in the UK on 28 April 2023. Harold also realises that his journey to Queenie Hennesy is also a way for him to resolve issues from his past and to listen to the problems of others, such as a "silver-haired gentleman" whom he meets in a cafe early in his journey, or a middle-aged woman with cuts on her wrists.I thought the characters were a mess, poorly written, especially the wife, I get the sons death is the blame but both seemed to have very little chemistry and the ending for me felt ridiculous, as for the druggie, pointless, the dog was cute though.
