About this deal

This detailed and visually-appealing resource offers a complete reference point for students learning or revising David Lucas’ 'Lost in the Toy Museum.’ It contains comprehensive sections on: days worth of planning, flipcharts and resources focusing on sentence structure and sequencing, based on the book Lost In The Toy Museum. Originally used in Autumn 2 for a Y1 class. Lucas’s stylised illustrations and unusual use of perspectives cleverly convey the magic of this engaging story.’ Julia Eccleshare, Guardian

A Robot with a broken heart is sent to the scrapheap. An exhausted, migrating Bluebird shelters where the Robot’s heart used to be; he builds her a nest of wires. Set in the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, East London, this magical book takes you through all of David Lucas' favourite toys in the collection. His gorgeous, magical illustrations are full of lovely detail with soft colours and bold outlines. The toys at the museum come alive after the lights go off and have adventures, apart for old Bunting who likes to take care of the other toys and teach them the history of the museum. Until one night the toys decide to play a game of hide and seek with him and he sets off on his own adventure to find them. Unfortunately, Halibut doesn’t realise that it is to be a Garden Party... Year 1 English Unit of Work - Lost in the Toy Museum by David Lucas. Medium Term Plan (8 lessons planned out on Medium Term Planning Document). Differentiation ideas included. Links to the Year 1 English National Curriculum (Reading, S&L, Grammar and Writing). Hi, thank you for the review. It does state that there are only 4 LO's which means 4 days of work. The ActivInspire reflects this. I'm sorry you weren't happy with this planning. Hide replies This book is set in a Toy Museum, where each night the toys come alive. One night they decide to run away from the main character, who is not quite sure what is going on, as he think that all the toys have gotten lost. With the help of a series of notes, he finds them, and they reveal that they were playing Hide and Seek. This book would be used in Key Stage One, and could easily be used as a topic book, as it is accessible across the curriculum for a number of different tasks. I enjoyed this book, and think it is very relatable to children. I personally would use it as a topic book for whole class use, and perhaps be able to use it within guided reading for the lower ability groups to take a closer look and discuss it further.
