About this deal
The Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter CL-1 is a phantom-powered boost for your passive ribbon and dynamic microphones that need a little extra level before the mic preamp.
With this your mic doesn't require as much gain with your audio interface and thus less noise in the background with higher level of detail with volume boost. Designed for all passive microphones – including ribbons- the CL-1 safely uses any standard phantom powered microphone input device to provide up to +25db of ultra- clean, transparent gain. Using patent pending technology that keeps the direct audio path free-and-clear of transformers, capacitors, and resistors, the CL-1 houses direct-coupled, discrete JFET circuitry that delivers world class, ultra-clean gain while preserving the natural sonic characteristics of the source. This is to appease the purists who think the JS-2 or some specific fault in one of the cable runs might have interfered with my test.Using patent pending technology that keeps the direct audio path free-and-clear of transformers, capacitors, and resistors, the CL-1 houses discrete JFET circuitry that delivers world class, ultra-clean gain while preserving the natural sonic characteristics of the source. This thing makes my RE320 sound like an RE3200 it adds much more needed voltage with +48v phantom power.
It just so happens that I have one of those here — thanks to this site’s eagle-eared readers, who voted for it in a blind broadcast mic listening survey. And then I read a short narration (as is my custom, another fabulous excerpt from Zen and the Art of Mixing. But the C400’s pad is cutting 20dB of gain, which means the Cloudlifter’s additional 20-25dB is all but wiped out.
