About this deal

Once again, Evangeline forces Mare and Maven together. Mare learns from Maven that his mother, Elara Merandus, masterfully manipulated mind, starting from childhood. Maven reveals that even now he isn't sure where her unnatural influence leaves off and his own will begins. He tells her about the close friend he once had named Thomas, whom he loved. He was at the war front when he lost control of his burner abilities and accidentally killed Thomas. He asked his mother to take away his pain. She was never fully able to do so, only distort it. Maven’s Childhood:After Mare makes an escape attempt, she asks Maven: “How much of it was her?” We learn that Elara hammered her way into Maven’s head from the time he was a baby, forcing him to walk before he was ready, until he would cry whenever she entered a room. He then delivered this chilling line: “Eventually she took the fear away too. Like so many other things.”YES, we feel bad for Maven, NO we are not happy about it. Could I also add in the fact that the characters were as boring as the dirt under their fingernails? Cal is another character I was disappointed in. Which is sad because I liked him in Glass Sword. In King's Cage, Cal was being Emo McBroody and that did not help him with his development. Emo McBroody over here was pining for Mare (why I have no idea?) and was struggling with his allegiance to the Scarlet Guard and the Silvers. Look, Cal, I understand this is a hard time for you, but you are fighting in a war. Get over it. I feel like his character wasn't given justice because he was hardly seen during the first part of the book. I just have a bad feeling that Maven will die in the next book. I hope not. I really do. At this point I can just read an entire book from his perspective. My heart broke for him in this book. Such a strong character. I feel so sorry for him. Why can't Maven just be happy and get a good ending? Is it too much to ask????? Maven is a character who needs time and his character needs to be fleshed out properly so that he can be understood and not misread.Come on Victoria. You can do better. maybe since he is away now he can heal properly and try to help himself???? But i have my fingers crossed. But hopes are low. Gonna say this now: if book 4 turns out the way i hope then i will totally try to look pass the sheer stupidity of this one. Anyway let me stop my rambling for now. May or may not read the last book.

AHHHHH CAL TIME CAL TIME CAL TIME CAL TIMMMMEEEE I CAN'T EVEN AHFDFJKSFHKJSFHSKDJHLFKHDSFHLSDFJKLSDHFHSDLKJFHLSJDHFSDHFJSHDJLKFH You guys will have to come to your own conclusions when u read it. At this point you can feel free to ask questions but I am being vague because I don't want to spoil anything. However at this point I can tell you that the Cal For one….I’ve read a million and one books that are bridges to the final story, and not felt an ounce of the boredom I felt for this one. It’s just a whole lot of nothing, if I’m being honest. I suppose there was plenty of political planning, war strike planning, and even some pretty decent action scenes, but it felt so contrived, so forced that I couldn’t help but feel wholly disconnected. Cameron and the Guard make plans to put their first assault into action by taking over Corvium. Cal does not think that they can successfully take the military fortress. The party enters the final chamber, seeing two staircases leading down to a chained sarcophagus on a platform. On the ceiling is a mural of a crowned, swollen pale worm burrowing through landscapes. They are investigating the room when suddenly Obann comes in behind them, telling them a bit of the history of this buried temple. He then asks the Mighty Nein why they have followed him. Beau responds that he called out Yasha in a way that concerned them. Obann responded that it still does not explain why they were interrupting the secret meeting in the first place. Fjord tells Obann they want to stop his plans encourage war between the Dwendalian Empire and Kryn Dynasty. Obann then asks where the group's allegiances are. Beau points out that he keeps asking more questions instead of answering them. Caleb casts Suggestion that Obann come clean. He resists the spell. [3]

Maven takes Mare, Evangeline, and many others on a coronation tour. He speaks before reds in an attempt to bring them to his side. To make them think that he has their best interest at heart. Some are falling for his lies. So guys this was one of my favourite series but this book just made me so upset. I hate it!!!! I feel to laugh in Mare's face at the end. Bitch. I am so happy that that happened! I think that's one of the only positives. Oh and these are just my taught and opinions ;) As interesting at the premise is, the book failed to capture my attention as well as having little to no character development for Mare. Literally, the first 2/3rds of the book was filler and the last bit was rushed action. Aside from that, nothing else happened. Just talking and talking and talking and descriptions and more talking and more talking and *snore*

Cameron and Farley enter the city. Cal brings some silvers under his protection when they surrender. Some silvers flee, many are killed. Cameron learns that Maven has taken a group of red soldiers hostage. Cameron’s brother, Morrey, among them. She runs off to save him, but Cal catches up and offers to help. Cal hopes to exchange the slaves for the Silver’s freedom. Cameron has other plans. Cameron saves them on her own, and many silvers die. When she gets the red soldiers away after a fight, she finds that they have been fed lies by Maven and they do not trust Cameron or any of the Scarlet Guard. Read by Amanda Dolan. Now it could be because I absolutely hated this pointless waste of paper...but I disliked the audio as well. Everything sounded so bland. Bleh. Based on the premise alone, this book was mainly political with a few talks of war tactics in it. That's all fine and dandy, but it was BORING!!!

King Cage Mini Thing Cage vs. Manything Cage

I don't when know where to begin with this shit of a character. This annoying, whining, self-absorbed pathetic excuse of a character. Mare Must Speak: Mare wakes up to Maven staring at her like a lunatic, which is pretty on brand for him, and explains his latest evil plan, which is also pretty on brand for him. Maven forces Mare to tell the world that the Scarlet Guard is luring Newbloods to their death in a quest to create a Red-only world. He coaxes Newbloods to join him for “protection,” when he really will force them to join his Silver army and eradicate the Scarlet Guard. When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire-leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down.

Family Time: Mare and crew land at a base in Piedmont, operated by the Scarlet Guard and citizens of the Free Republic of Montfort, including Premier Dane Davidson. She is finally reunited with the Barrows and learns that Sara Skonos healed her father, regrowing his legs and lungs, and we would be lying if we said this family reunion didn’t make us shed a tear. Oh, and just in case life couldn’t get any better for the Barrows (again, relatively speaking…) Farley gives birth to her and Shade’s baby and names her Clara! Most of her friends know that this is all a show but some, even in the Scarlet Guard begin to mistrust Mare. He stares up at me. “Those who know what it’s like in the dark will do anything to stay in the light.”Then what do you want?” When Kilorn asked me that same question, it gave me focus, purpose, a clear path in darkness. “What do you want, Cal?” Princess Iris of the Lakelands: The youngest daughter of King Orrec, Iris is quiet, calculating, and religious, betrothed to Maven to solidify the alliance between Norta and the Lakelands. That night at a dinner in honor of the Piedmont guests, Houses Iral, Haven, and Laris attempt to assassinate Maven. They wish to place Cal on the throne. Jon saves Mare from a bullet, and then escapes without her. Maven is shot, but a skin healer is able to save him. After the assassination attempt, Maven clears away more of the High Houses from court, but forces them to leave their children behind as "promises of good behavior." He begins spending more time with Mare. She tries to manipulate him by using his feelings for her against him. Maven takes the court, Mare, and Evangeline with him on a coronation tour of Norta. He speaks before Reds throughout Norta in an attempt to bring them to his side. He manipulates them into thinking that he has their best interest at heart. Mare is saddened to see how many are falling for his lies.
