Putting wallpaper on top of beadboard is a bad idea. Not only will the wallpaper pattern be distorted but it will also not adhere very well to the grooves of the bead board. Can you use a paint roller on paintable beadboard wallpaper? Paintable Beadboard Wallpaper Installation Process Our first two beadboard panels needed wall outlet cuts. We measured and marked on the beadboard where the cut opening needed to be made. Using wallpaper paste, we will have MUCH better adhesion. Also, we don’t have to wet the wallpaper before hanging it, which will make this project much less messy. The fact that the wallpaper had to be moistened made it hard to cut, so that’s another benefit of using wallpaper waste. Yes, it’s an extra expense, but TRUST ME, you will have a better end product with less frustration and mess! Our 8ft tall panels of beadboard were just perfect for our wall and we didn’t have to cut them since our crown and floor molding would cover any small gaps.

Most of these are an MDF or HDF material with primed and ready to paint surfaces. But it also comes in unfinished wood panels and wood planks too. Beadboard wallpaper is vinyl wallpaper that is textured to the same dimensions as real beadboard. It comes on a roll and can be painted in any color. It is scrubbable and can be easily wiped clean. Obviously we could see our wall studs because we just built our wall and didn’t have any drywall up! 3. Cut the beadboard height to size if neededYou can use beadboard wallpaper over popcorn ceilings but just make sure you first scrape the ceiling to get down to an almost-smooth finish. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but you don’t want any of the old texture to show through the vinyl wallpaper. Even if you want the beadboard white, you still want to paint it! The paint will give it a more authentic look as it will look like a real beadboard! We actually did this already when we built our wall. But here is a photo from our floor to ceiling board and batten tutorial so you get the idea! 4. Mark the wall studsNow that you are done, I’d love to see how it turned out! ❤️ Post your before and after photos here! How to Apply Beadboard Wallpaper to Bookshelves & Furniture Now, wet your finger with a baby wipe and lightly run your index finger over that caulked seam. You should be wiping off any excess and leaving the seam line filled in with caulk. Touch up with baby wipes if need and immediately throw them in the trash can. (Don’t make the mistake of throwing the baby wipe on the floor bc then you will have dried caulk all over your floor and it’s nearly impossible to get off – ask me how I know!) The fact that beadboard is easily wipeable and scrubbable makes it an ideal surface for use in kitchens! It’s also easy to repaint if you decide on changing your decor later. IMPORTANT! Whenever you caulk, have two things on hand: baby wipes (a lot of them) and a lined trash can. To remove the existing baseboard and crown molding, score the top and corner caulk lines with a utility blade. Then, use a prybar and hammer to remove the baseboard from the wall. Half-wall paneling can sometimes make a small room look smaller, particularly if it is painted in a darker color. But it can also make any size room feel cozier, more finished, and more intimate, which is particularly useful in a room with extra-tall ceilings such as a great room or spacious foyer. In different regions, beadboard might be called tongue-and-groove paneling or wainscoting. It’s often confused with board and batten, another type of wall paneling. They might look similar, but look closely at the panels. Board and batten features wide panels separated by thin strips (or battens). That’s the difference. Wood paneling for walls adds an element of classic style to your home, and it’s easier to install than you think. How To Install Beadboard But, if it will be the same colors as the beadboard and crown molding, go ahead and install it before painting with brad nails into the wall studs.
