About this deal

I would recommend One Last Secret to readers that enjoy domestic suspense, revenge, and healthy doses of uniqueness. It happens to coincide with her fiance's Evan absence on a work trip and feels it would be doing one last favour to an ex client. Although it was a bit outrageous and at times problematic, I enjoyed The Last Mrs Parrish, so I downloaded this on audiobook and got stuck in. A week a I would like to thank both Netgalley and HQ for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Her first novel, Playing Away, was published in 2000 and since then she's had seventeen international bestsellers, translated into twenty six languages. There were some clever plot twists that come in the final chapters, so this is definitely a book you need to see through to the end to truly appreciate Parks thrilling narrative. Adele has written 19 contemporary novels and 2 historical ones, Spare Brides and If You Go Away, which are set during and after WW1. It may have taken me a while, but boy does it feel good to finally have read a novel by Adele Parks!

Just when I thought I had it all figured out, she threw in a well thought out twist that I did not see coming.

Dora is initially hesitant to commit to this final job, but she thinks she can trust her client Daniel. Despite her promise she takes one last job, thinking that she'll never have to tell this little secret to anyone. She does not figure out that her “naps” right after politely eating or drinking something forced on her mean she was drugged even though it happens multiple times. Her best friend/ trust fund baby Evan sees her condition, trying to convince her to quit her job as like he did before but when he realizes, Dora has no intention to leave this life behind, he does something unexpected, he PROPOSES!I wish to thank Harlequin Australia for providing me with a free copy of this book for review purposes. Although being rich has never really mattered to Dora, being valued does and in Evan, she has found someone she loves and trusts and she accepts his proposal. Contradictions are part of humans but couldn’t explain how a woman who rejects to terminate her pregnancy then let her child go to her mother.

She also shares how she transitioned from writing romantic comedies to psychological thrillers, how she avoids stereotypes, spidergrams, and so much more. She begins to have memory lapses, she hears conversations that she questions and is sure that one of the men is the one that assaulted her. However, I can appreciate these subjects can make for uncomfortable reading; at times, I felt I had to put the book down and emerge from Dora’s dark world. After all, she only has to pretend to be Daniel's girlfriend to impress his friends; no sex is required.
