Greek Myths by Marcia Williams - AbeBooks Greek Myths by Marcia Williams - AbeBooks

Write ‘Prometheus’ and ‘Epimetheus’ at the top of a flip chart. Have some fun practising saying the names – find the small words in the names to help with this me-the-us. From the heroes familiar to everyone, such as Malala Yousafzai, to the amazing activists you might not have heard of, like Baruani Ndume, the teenager who gave a voice to fellow refugee children in Tanzania, discover the incredible true stories of child activists. Children Who Changed The World Following Archie's War, which recorded in diary form the First World War home-front experience of a ten year old, Williams now turns to Archie's daughter, Flossie Albright.I gave this book three stars because even though i did enjoy this book I felt as if it was not one of the BEST children's books I have read. Seeing as how she has written many books in her days, I would expect her to have a little creativity. I felt that I had seen all the same things before, I wish she would have done something that was more eye catching. Which makes me appreciate what this writer/illustrator has accomplished. What do the Greeks say? Tragedy is easy, comedy is hard. Or was that the Romans?

Greek Myths by Marcia Williams | Waterstones

Retells eight Greek myths in a comic strip format, including "Pandora's Box," "The Twelve Tasks of Heracles," and "Theseus and the Minotaur." a wealth of inspiring activities, discussion ideas and guided reading notes based onGreek Mythsby Marcia Williams This book is a collection of some of the most famous and classic greek myths including "Pandora's Box," "Arion and the Dolphins," "Orpheus and Eurydice," "The Twelve Tasks of Hercules," Daedalus and Icarus," "Perseus and the Gorgon's Head," "Theseus and the Minotaure," and "Arachne Versus Athena." The author does a nice job of preserving the original myth while still simplifying it enough for young readers to understand.A foolish greedy lion and a disloyal crocodile are two of the animals who get their just deserts in this quirky and beautifully-presented collection of traditional Indian folk tales. Based on Theseus and the Minotaur, from 'Greek Myths' by Marcia Williams, this scheme of work follows a Talk for Writing approach to planning the unit. Marcia Williams' book was a collection of Greek myths that were retold. It has many stories in it that are oddly illustrated. I did not find the pictures in the book appealing, as I am well aware that this is a children's book, i still found the illustrations quite annoying. But i did love the fact that she cut down the stories into little pieces to help younger kids comprehend them. Evaluation of Literary Elements: Though it may not be the most thorough retelling of these myths, I do think that the comic-book style of these myths would interest a child. The bright pictures are certainly thought out and Williams did a great job playing with color. It could potentially be a very good intro to graphic novels for children. Readers, from reluctant to eager, will be attracted by the colorful illustrations, the artistry, and the wit with which Ms. Williams depicts the tales of Theseus and the Minotaur, Daedalus and Icarus, and six other classics from Ancient Greece. Her comic-book style presentation both entertains and enlightens. Introduce the The Orchard Book of Greek Myths and read the blurb. Read the foreword which explains the importance of the myths to the Greeks and why people still read and tell the stories today.

A selection of the works of one of the world's greatest writers, retold in accessible comic-strip style. Reason for Reading: All my readers should know by now that mythology is a favourite subject of mine, especially Greek. Plus I had also read Williams' first Shakespeare book ages ago when it first came out so knew what to expect. Read & Respondhelps you build a whole-school literacy programme based on timeless children’s stories, chosen to inspire reading for pleasure. The myths in this book are presented in short, simple text statements. The illustrations are bright, simple, and supportive of the story. The speech of the characters, however, adds another level to the text. In my opinion, these comments are humorous, but not necessary.
