About this deal

Simon Le Not Bono’s vocals were a lot less stilted and staid on this release compared to his vocals on the studio versions – his vocals have more life, they feel more natural and organic, I can actually hardly stand to hear the studio versions in comparison as far as the vocals go.

So unlike a lot of live albums up to that point, you aren’t really missing anything in the live versions compared to their studio counterparts, the band thoughtfully made sure to include all the bleeps and bloops and unexpected sound effects that were always popping out of nowhere on Duran Duran records, and they even included that marvelous pan flute solo at the end of “The Chauffeur”. Sure, some of it was sequencers rather than live musicianship, but all the same they were masters of musical atmosphere in their idiom. But if I was going to select ten of them, I’m not sure I’d make many changes from the ten they picked for this release. About halfway through the show one of the concessions workers got off and saw me sitting there while my daughter was playing over by the pond by the entrance, and offered me the free ticket she had, which was very generous of her and which I gratefully accepted. The Duranies were a pretty tight band live actually – I actually snuck my nine-year-old daughter into one of the shows on the Astronaut tour with the five original members back in 2004. At the time of release, critics were suspicious that the mix was too polished for a live album, as most of the audience was muted. Although I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by this one, any list of “The 50 Greatest Live Albums Ever” that is thoughtful enough to include Wings Over America and Pulse and The Song Remains the Same along with a couple of live Queen albums is all right by me, even if for some inexplicable reason it has not only Kiss Not-Very-Live but also Kiss Not-Very-Live II.

Union of the Snake" • " New Moon on Monday" • " The Reflex" • " The Wild Boys" • " A View to a Kill" • " Notorious" • " Skin Trade" • " Meet El Presidente" • " I Don't Want Your Love" • " All She Wants Is" • " Do You Believe in Shame? Popular though they may have been in their prime, but they were pretty formulaic in the early 80s, and hearing any random Duran Duran song was hardly different than hearing any other. The intro to “The Seventh Stranger” is like going over a musical waterfall and dropping into an enchanted, sumptuously extravagant synthesizer lagoon.

Then one day many years later I looked up the All Music Guide review by that busy guy Mr Erlewine and was surprised to find he had awarded a mere two stars out of five. And – other than the hit James Bond theme “A View to a Kill” – Arena was our last glimpse of Duran Duran at the top. Notorious” would be a disappointment in about every way imaginable, and they were completely left behind by the rest of the music world by the time the 80s slouched to its hair band denouement. Some people think that means it lacks the atmosphere of a live album, but I beg to differ, it just means I don’t have to hear a bunch of idiots whistling while I am listening to the music.

At 14, i bought this album on cassette in a bin in a French gas station and played it to death, as my Australian family travelled through a frozen European winter in 1984.Luego continuaron haciendo discos de calidad, pero abandonando la ola de los New Romantics, y teniendo un cierto estilo funky. They brought a color and vibrancy to the Top 40 with their keyboard textures that had been presaged by David Bowie on Low and Heroes, one that pop radio wasn’t quite ready for in 1977 and 1978 but was well primed for by the 80s. Burning the Ground" • " Violence of Summer (Love's Taking Over)" • " Serious" • " Ordinary World" • " Come Undone" • " Too Much Information" • " Perfect Day" • " White Lines" • " Out of My Mind" • " Electric Barbarella" • " Someone Else Not Me" • " (Reach Up for The) Sunrise" • " What Happens Tomorrow" • " Nice" • " Falling Down • " All You Need Is Now • " Girl Panic! And then to top it off you are usually taught that whatever group you happened to born into in this country (be it Republican, Democrat, evangelical, Amish, Trekkie, or what have you) is better than any other group found in the most incredible nation that history has ever seen, well, it is no surprise that most Americans inherently have a pretty bad case of better-than-most-everyone-else-itis, and I am probably no exception.
