About this deal

In the pattern settings page, the length can be modified to one step so that the sample is triggered every 16th note. I do wonder, hmmm … if the Circuit Tracks midi tracks could work the actual synth tracks, then you’d have midi control and automation in separate lanes over the internal synths. Further adjustments can be made, including duplication of the pattern into slots and instant pattern changes. If you’re interested on the good things, a quick Google query will give you tons of reviews going over the features in detail.

One of the frustrations of the CT was the lack of sound design beyond macros and blind browsing a limited subset of synth patches. I’ll go over shortly on the good things: It’s really self-contained, portable and you can produce music on the go. In my original version, if I want to control two outboard synths I have to sacrifice using the internal synths. The Circuit also has a passive master compressor that adds some leveling to the output; however, there is no way to alter its parameters. Products shown, tagged or featured on YouTube by creators are sold by merchants and are subject to merchant's terms and conditions.By learning a unit like this inside out, and learning to work with its limitations, you can potentially get closer to the actual music. The Circuit’s sequencer has made its way into a number of Novation products such as the SL MkIII keyboard, gaining new powers with each iteration. As before, each synth is a four-voice digital poly derived from the design of Novation’s Nova instruments. As it happens, the Tracks has no way to edit presets or samples (the knobs allow only for tweaking a subset of parameters while performing), but you can edit synth presets and samples by using Components, a web-based tool that (annoyingly) requires you to log in and use a Web MIDI-enabled browser (I use Edge on the Mac). You get 8 sequencer tracks, but only two melodic synth tracks (plus 2 MIDI-only ones and 4 drum tracks).

Even if the keyboard was present, remember it’s still unable to play chords; unless the sampled sound is itself a chord. I did have some difficulty In addition, there is no way to design sounds from scratch on the Circuit (relying on tweakable preset sounds instead,) which is a huge turn-off for many advanced synthesists. Also tucked around the back is a micro SD card slot, greatly expanding the portable independence compared to the original. Each sample track has Pitch, Decay, Drive, and Tone controls, which work great for drums but can be limiting for more in-depth sampling. Tracks adds a MicroSD card to the hardware, making the process of importing and storing samples more flexible, although some prep is still required.

Connectivity: The Tracks improved massively over the OG Circuit in terms of connectivity, and it shines here even when compared to competing devices. As with the synths, sounds are selected using the pad grid with a total of 64 pre-loaded sample slots. Exporting: The biggest flaw of the original Circuit that has yet to be addressed is it’s ungainly export options (or lack thereof. Fully personalise your instrument with custom MIDI templates and samples, or find new inspiration with exclusive artist-made sound packs.
