The Centre went into abeyance during the Second World War, but was restored to a condition fit for re-opening by the members themselves. THE PIONEER HEALTH CENTRE LTD., registered charity no. 212204". Charity Commission for England and Wales.

The controlling and abusive behaviours described above have been consistently normalised by parents, coaches and sporting organisations as being necessary to create “mentally tough” athletes ready for high-level competition. FIFA World cup will be held in next year. So, What do you think which team will win in the world cup? I really enjoy Grant Wahl's articles in Sports Illustrated. Each one is a must-read. I think he's done more than anyone to bring soccer/football into the mainstream of American sporting consciousness. He's equal parts fan of both the international sport and the MLS. The world's full of experts who look condescendingly down their noses at the brand of the game practiced in the America's professional league. Wahl's not one of those. While he fully accepts the differences in quality of the MLS vs. European standard-bearers Premiere League/Serie A/Primer Liga/Bundesliga, he also takes the long view: who could of guessed 20 years ago how soccer has seeped into daily sporting life here? Wahl's world is one in which soccer will, ultimately, prevail as this country's Number 1 sport.Central to Scott Williamson's philosophy was the belief that left to themselves people would spontaneously begin to organise in a creative way, and this happened, the members initiating a wide range of sporting, social and cultural activities using the facilities offered by the Centre. The new building, designed by Sir Owen Williams was described in detail in the Bulletin of the Pioneer Health Centre, 1949. [3] It moved away from the traditional lines dominating medical buildings. Williams created a large open space using the latest structural techniques, allowing the Centre's doctors to properly observe the members. At the middle of the Centre a large swimming pool was covered by a glazed roof, which, along with large areas of windows, allowed natural light into the building. These windows could be fully opened to circulate fresh air into the building. The cork floors allowed people to move about barefoot.

There is no evidence that controlling or abusive practices improve children’s performance in sport. But even if there was, sport performance should not be valued above a child’s health and wellbeing. The sport system is complex, and while it’s easy to think it’s just a few problematic people, the reality is these practices have been normalised for generations. Our research found about one in three people we surveyed said they’d experienced abuse by a parent during their time in Australian community sport. Fan opinion seems to have taken the latter route, and with the new direction have come those familiar tags – "Judas", "pampered prima donna" – and hostile banners reading things like "Repent: 23". (There are an awful lot of Christian fishes on the cars in the Home Depot Center parking lot.)

Psychological abuse by parents was reported by just under a third of our respondents, and included behaviours such as:
