About this deal

A few days later, when Rob writes to me about Lindsey, I think of our afternoon in the summerhouse. All the sunshine and warmth I saw on his face glows from my screen as I read his message. To Rob, and his family, thank you for bravely sharing your story, for raising awareness of MND, and for allowing the world to see how motor neurone disease affects thousands of families in the UK, every single day. Rob also introduced a no-tears policy as an affirmation of everything good that remained in their changed lives. He told Lindsey that, while he accepted the hard truth of the diagnosis, he would fight the prognosis and try to live for longer than the doctors predicted. Anwar El Ghazi is suspended by Mainz over pro-Palestine post as the Bundesliga side insist the now-deleted update goes against the 'values of the club' Burrow’s mind is as sharp as ever and he uses a piece of technology called Eyegaze to respond. His eyes identify individual letters on the screen and then, slowly, he builds words to formulate an answer. When he is ready Rob turns to us with a smile. It is his way of letting Lindsey and me know that, while we have been yakking away, he can reply. Rob fixes his gaze on the send button and his texted answer is spoken by an approximation of his voice – recorded during the earliest months of his illness. He read a book aloud so that the technology could create a memory bank of words said by him.

Photograph: Gareth Copley/Getty Images This is the story of a tiny kid who adored rugby league but never should have made it – and ended up in the Leeds hall of fame. It’s the story of a man who resolved to turn a terrible predicament into something positive – when he could have thrown the towel in. It’s about the power of love, between Rob and his childhood sweetheart Lindsey, and of the life-changing bond of friendship between Rob, Kevin Sinfield, and their Rhino teammates.

EXCLUSIVE: FA issues guidance to clubs warning players and staff to take 'extreme caution' when commenting... Our careers are on the line here! Dawid Malan vows England won’t go through motions in last three matches at the World Cup Rob points out wryly that, even though he doesn’t really like hearing himself, it is far better that it is his accent “rather than an American robot voice like Stephen Hawking”. Watter kant': South Africa rugby stars speak in Afrikaans and appear to make light of Bongi Mbonambi's 'white ****' England slur row as they warm up But my suffering as a fan is small potatoes compared to what Rob Burrow and his family have faced through the last couple of years. I think it says a lot about the rugby league community that despite our team rivalries, we'll always look after our own when it comes down to it. Rob mentions that so many fans of other teams have gone on to pass on their well-wishes, give him money, even do their own ridiculous challenges to raise awareness for his cause.

You could not put into words how grateful I am to have met Lindsey. I’m trying not to be soppy but some of the things Lindsey does for me is proof that I have found my one and only. No one deserves to have their world turned upside down. Yet she turns up every morning with a smile on her face knowing what the day ahead looks like, knowing I need help with every single thing.

Tottenham fans pictured waving Israel flags during their clash against Fulham despite Premier League ban amid Palestine conflict Liverpool assistant coach Pep Lijnders says 'the whole club is behind' Luis Diaz after his parents were kidnapped in Colombia - with his father still missing This memoir is powerful, inspiration and heart breaking. Hearing Rob talking about the struggles of his declining health and how it’s affected his family, his teammates, and his children. I love his mindset and his determination to try and live life to the fullest even with the current circumstances with the pandemic. It’s powerful listening to all of his teammates talk about how great, funny and strong he was, even before his diagnosis and that he never saw himself as a small guy playing rugby, just a lad managing to live his dream.

Although I am not a sports fan, living in Leeds, of course I have heard of Leeds Rhinos. I’ll be honest though, I couldn’t name any of the players. Sport has never been my thing but hearing of Robs diagnosis and also losing a work colleague who was a friend from the same illness, I wanted to read this to help me understand more not only about the illness but how someone comes to terms with being told something so life changing. I do remember asking if Lindsey was OK. She had a bit of a cry and we cuddled. Then I said: ‘Thank God it’s me and not you or the kids.’ I got stared at but it was more novelty value than anything sinister! There are times when I think about death,” the 38-year-old told me in May, “but I’m not afraid of dying.” Rob and Lindsey have been together since they were 15 and he said: “There’s something beautiful about being cared for by the only girl you’ve ever loved.”

At the end of the day she has to assist me upstairs and put me to bed. She’s also mummy to our three kids – a sort of single parent now. She gives 110% in her role as a physiotherapist, always wanting to help others and putting everyone before herself.” I used to love reading to my own children as part of their bedtime routine. I was so excited and honoured to be given the opportunity to read a CBeebies Bedtime Story. — Rob Burrow Zinchenko is Arsenal's biggest JOKER while Elneny is the LEAST likely to fork out for dinner as Gunners stars reveal all about their team-mates One coach said I would need a “bloody big heart” to make it. A match official once mistook me for a ball boy. When someone asked Leeds coach Daryl Powell if he had ever seen a smaller player he said: “Only in the Under 10s”.Nathan Cleary and Mary Fowler confirm they're a couple with a VERY romantic display as Matildas ace rests her head on footy superstar's shirtless chest Gary Neville admits Man United's 'awful performances' are 'worrying' for Erik ten Hag as pressure increases... But it didn’t stop me. I had a fabulous career and perhaps one of the clips people watch most was typical of what I could sometimes do. I had already won four Super League Grand Finals with Leeds when we lined up against Saint Helens at Old Trafford in 2011 but I was hungry for more. Life had been difficult as coach Brian McDermott had told me he no longer saw me as a starting player. I had been used most often off the bench and had seriously thought about leaving the club. Leeds fans will love re-living the glory - and what glory - through Rob's eyes, but that won't be the case for everyone as the book almosts descends into a basic list of "and then we beat this team and we lost to the other".
