About this deal

By far the most beautiful bottle in the entire Issey Miyake range, it was not in vain that they won the 2005 award referred to in the perfume description. Dirty Blue Leather, its a very odd pairing for a fragrance, it has some freshness up top but then it hits you with heavy dark tones right after, may not be as easy to process for casual noses, this is def not your typical casual daytime blue or freshie. Somewhere between eight and nine hours in I just feel that I have clean skin rather than have any perfume on me. Before purchasing it, I read some older reviews from 2005-2010 and it seems to have been slightly reformulated, as the older reviews mostly describe it as being very strong and projecting – which I find no longer to be true as performance on my bottle produced in 2017 is moderate but adequate. Perhaps peacefully resigned, as we Pacific Northwesterners are, to seasons of existential melancholy.

Again, easy on trigger with this one, two sprays, one under the shirt and one on the back of the neck and you are good to go. Issey Miyake (IM) is one of my favorite fragrance brands because they're not scared to be different. This could be described as a woody AND blue style fragrance and it lasts a very good amount of time , in the humid environment that I live you're usually lucky to get 2 hours from a blue fragrance but this one stays around for a good 5 hours albeit in the background to the prominent pine wood notes. To me this is a masterpiece and brings me memories of my brother, who used to have some issey miyake's in the early 2000s.

It’s a fragrance that seems to just have many built in layers, over the hours of wearing you are taken on a journey if you will, starting somewhere fresh and clean and ending up somewhere warm and intoxicating. My destination is the tennis court to people watch, meanwhile more sun is coming in and it's starting to warm up. It reminds me of freshly painted metal surfaces on a cargo ship (the resins of cypress/rosemary and the metallic notes of juniper berries and lavender) mixed with marine notes (star anise). The melon note I pick up makes it feel a bit 90s, but the thoughtful blend with more contemporary notes makes it quite unique. In the opening, I also get a sweet/bitter accord that reminds me very much of Calvin Klein Dark Obsession. The first day I arrived, I needed gym clothes and since mine weren't there in time, my dad went into town and bought me some quickly even though his flight was actually almost leaving. It's definitely signature scent worthy, but would suit someone with a serious demeanor and/or a serious personality well. L'Eau Bleue makes a deceptively minimalist and austere impression, yet read the reviews: clearly it is complex and elusive. The herbal sharpness is strong at the start and subsides to let a prickling lavender smell take over, which fades to leave a more mossy base.
