About this deal

As alcohol-free gin and low-alcohol drinks have less alcohol content, they are less damaging to your health in comparison to gin of a higher alcoholic content.

Like all of our straight spirit reviews, we select the best 0% gins for the job by taste-testing them. However, don’t go in expecting not to taste the difference between gin and their alcohol-free cousins; even apart from the lack of warmth from the alcohol, they are noticeably different drinks. The vapour is then cooled and becomes liquid again; the distiller captures this liquid and dilutes it with water. Tasting the gins together means we can easily rate each bottle against other competitors on the market and pick the best selection for our list.Alcohol-free gin or low-alcohol drinks are perfect for those who still want to enjoy a social drink without the sometimes negative effects associated with full ABV gin (when not enjoyed in moderation! As with most alcoholic gins, each brand tends to have a signature serve which we try alongside testing the spirit neat and in various styles of gin and tonic. We look for classic – or inventive – gin aromas and flavours on the nose and on the palate, with extra points for those that have a real, authentic alcoholic smell and taste to them – harder than it sounds to achieve. This is why it is probably worth spending a little bit more, and choosing beverages from a trusted craft gin distiller, when selecting your no- or low-ABV ‘gin’; hopefully, it’s a sign that your drink will have been crafted with real care and premium ingredients.

CleanCo has a few non-alcoholic gin replacements in its lineup, but the Clean G Rhubarb is our favourite. This is because the process really relies on the distillation of an alcoholic base spirit to the point where all the alcohol has evaporated. Every bottle purchased helps regenerate 1m² of seagrass in conjunction with the Marine Conservation Society, which makes it a win-win in our book. If you’ve tried the likes of Gordon’s alcohol-free gin, or Tanqueray alcohol-free gin, then it’s time to try some craft alcohol-free gin! The spirit is then blended with classic woody botanicals – rosemary, sage and cascarilla bark – and aromats such as cardamom, lemongrass and orange, to create a complex sip.And here’s where the process changes from the usual: whereas a standard-strength gin will be diluted by about half, in these situations the liquid will be more heavily diluted by the distiller, by adding much more water, and this brings the overall alcohol content of the liquid much lower. Some non-alcoholic spirits are made using the same process as for low-ABV ones: with a neutral grain spirit and botanicals being added to a still, which then go through multiple rounds of distillation to remove all the alcohol from the liquid. Some non-alcoholic gin makers believe that by allowing a hint of alcohol to remain, their product offers a superior taste.

Great in cocktails such as a Paloma or Tom Collins, or simply mixed with tonic, it should be no surprise to discover that Crossip has found its way onto menus at eateries Dishoom, Coppa Club and Daisy Green. This is thanks to a blend of distilled silver birch, orange peel, pimento, cascarilla bark, gentian, cardamom and subtle rhubarb root alongside those juniper-heavy notes. The level of herbiness almost makes it spicy, which delivers that all-important warming feeling that can so often be missing from non-alcoholic substitutes. We invite a few gin fans who also enjoy an occasional alcohol-free version to test the gins with us to allow a wider spectrum of taste preferences. The legal definition of gin states that the liquid must contain an alcohol level (ABV) of at least 37.
