About this deal

When you burn wood that is treated with chemicals or has certain additives - often referred to as pressure-treated wood - you expose yourself to a range of potential health and environmental issues. It’s always better to opt for firewood that is 100% natural and free from any chemicals, as you can burn it in your home fire without worrying about the health implications of doing so. Eco logs shouldn’t contain any chemicals, additives and other nasties. This means that eco logs burn cleaner, producing less air pollutants, which is good news for the air in your house and the environment outside. They can come in different shapes and sizes, but are often cylindrical or can be squared off like a briquette. Although some people will do this, burning any other fuel other than a 100% wooden log, may void your guarantee and could damage the stove. This is because the inside of wood burning stoves are designed differently to multifuel stoves. In 2021, the UK government announced a ban on the sale of wet wood in units under 2m3. In other words, you are legally required to ensure that the wood you burn in your home fireplace has been sufficiently dried. In addition to our ultra-dry heat logs, our kiln-dried firewood has been dried to a moisture content of 20% or less and is another great option for your home fire.

A multifuel stove has been designed specifically to accept different fuel types and may also have different flue liners. You can read up on the difference between a wood burner and multifuel stove here. They have a high heat output, don’t produce much smoke, have a low moisture content and burn very efficiently. Many are made using recycled materials, waste products and offcuts. This is great from a sustainability point of view.Previous fire logs may have been made with sawdust but it would have been bound together with paraffin wax. This is the same fossil-fuel derived substance that is used for candles, which is why natural eco friendly candles are a better choice. The moisture content of eco logs is less than 10%. This benefits the efficiency of a fire and helps it burn for longer. You may also find that the beautiful flames may not be as good as the ones produced with wooden logs.

If the heat log contains no artificial chemicals and is 100% organic material, then you can use the leftover ash as fertiliser for your garden.Choosing the right fuel source for your fire isn’t easy, as there are lots of things you need to think about. At Homefire, one of our most popular products is our bag of ultra-dry, high energy Shimada Heat Logs. To help you decide if they’re the ideal fuel for your fire, we run through some of the benefits of our heat logs below and illustrate why they’re such a popular choice with our current customers. Our heat logs are 100% clean and come with no additives or chemicals. This is a super important consideration when you’re looking for the right firewood for your home. It will also mean you won’t have to clean the glass as much. Although if you do, take a look at these 3 best ways on how to clean log burner stove glass.
