About this deal

The wood used to make these games (Sheesham, latin name Dalbergia Sissoo) is not endangered, and comes from Indian government managed plantations. Sustainable sourcing is assured through “Vriksh” certification. After cutting the long pieces to size, make 2 small holes at each end for the screws. And repeat this step for the screws in the middle The Fair Trade supplier reinvests their profits to provide workers and their families with healthcare, education and to help with sanitation

Extra for the long sides: make a groove right in the middle. The width depends on your material, for me it was 18mm. Next make 2 holes at either end of the sides to put the elastic/Bungee cord through. Note: Lumber dimensions are listed as nominal size. See lumber sizes for actual dimensions vs nominal. Probably the hardest part of this version is the centre piece: Make a ‘goal’ right in the middle of the piece with an opening of 50mm by 20mm. Bigger is easier, smaller is harder.Once everything is dry the last thing to do is wax the bottom piece, so everything slides as smooth as possible.

The rule book comes with descriptions of several different techniques. My favorite is “The Garner” which is described as follows. Since 1999, Masters Traditional Games Shop has specialised in traditional games that are usually difficult to obtain from anywhere else. From our humble beginnings offering English pub games, such as Darts, Shove Ha'penny and Skittles, the company - and our collection of games - has continually expanded ever since. Our unique and diverse catalogue is now probably the largest collection of games available anywhere - ranging from traditional board games, classic table games, many outdoor and giant games, casino games, party games and a selection of the finest football tables and table tennis equipment. I made this entire project with birch plywood (18mm) since I had some left from an old project. But you could use whatever you have on hand. Just make sure to adjust the dimensions as you go. The fancy model comes with mitred corners, inlay bottom, strong centre with tongue and groove connection and a round over for each player for a soft touch while playing. A beautifully hand-crafted catapult game of dexterity and skill! Fair Trade certified wooden games with free UK delivery Good Things:Using glue and a band clamp you can easily make the puzzle. If you want extra strength you could add nails trough the bottom to secure everything even more. The centre piece: Make a ‘goal’ right in the middle of the piece with an opening of 50mm by 20mm. Bigger is easier, smaller is harder. That’s it for game set up. If necessary, give each player a wooden tension peg. These are used to temporarily increase the amount of tension on the elastic band if needed. Ben: Pitching our game to the Dragons on the BBC was fun. It was also pretty scary, but well worth it. Whilst we did not get investment from them, we did get it from someone we had previously practiced our pitch to, Streetbank founder Sam Stephens. We were in the Den for nearly two hours, with no notes, no prompts and 5 dragons firing questions at us with the odd theatrical explosion to boot.

Extra for the short piece: Round over the middle part so it’s easier on the touch while playing. Sanding the sharp corners will work just as well. Put the center piece and the shorter pieces at the right place, hold everything tight together and screw in the screws.
