About this deal

The Boss Katana MK2 still has a familiar control scheme that is intuitive and easy to use. The preamp provides 5 different amp voices. You get great clean, crunch, brown, and lead plus an acoustic setting. But what’s really cool is the MK2 version now features a variation control! The Katana 100 MkII features USB and phones/recording outputs with mic’d cabinet emulation. Thisletsyou send mix-ready amp tones to a computer's DAW for direct recording, headphones for silent practice,or even a front-of-house PA system for live performance.

These tonal variations broaden the already wide spectrum of sounds offered by the original Katana, making the amp even more versatile. Switches: Power Control (Standby, 0.5 W, 50 W, 100 W), Cab Resonance (Vintage/Modern/Deep), Variation, Booster, Mod, Fx, Delay, Reverb, Tap, Ch1, Ch2, Ch3, Ch4, Panel, Stereo Expand We live in a world of compact preamp pedals, ever-more advanced modelling amps and digital tone technology. Each of these effects sections has three variations for you to choose from so you have 15 different effects to play with right out of the box. This is by far the most versatile jamming & gigging amp I have come across, but it is essential to have a footswitch (and expression pedal) to exploit the amps features.

However, you do need to adjust settings between those scenarios and this is where the Katana falls flat a bit. You only get to save a few presets. And, when you are in a specific preset, you can't know where exactly your EQ pots are dialed in, so rotating one of them makes your settings jump to an extremely different location.

I have not enjoyed the sound or experience of modelling amps until I tried this one. The tone is good, most of the effects seem to be near perfect emulations of the actual pedals. You can control everything from the master Katana MkII and enjoy stereo effects like chorus, delay, reverb and more with the sound shared across both amps. As a result, you and your audience will enjoy a beautifully wide and immersive sound field. Perfect for Stage and Studio

The Katana Version 4 update brings original Katana owners some great new features derived from the next-generation Katana MkII series. Heavy Octave, Stereo Delay, and Pan Delay effects have been added, along with a dedicated Pedal FX section that makes it easier to set up foot-controlled wah and pedal bend. In addition, a first-generation 100-watt Katana model can now be used as a slave amp with the Katana MkII’s powerful Stereo Expand feature, allowing you to create wide, expansive tones with stereo-compatible effects distributed across both amps. The DSP design engineers at Boss are just good at what they do. Plain and simple. They know how to program their technology for great guitar tone and feel. In my jam room, I cranked up the amp to 7 on the volume control. Then played while measuring the loudness with a sound level meter. I can confirm that it is loud! I was getting a reading of 105 dB!
