Marston’s Pedigree Ale 8 x 500ml The brewers only use natural Burton spring water and traditional varieties of barley and hops (Maris Otter Barley, Fuggles and Goldings hops), rather than less expensive, commercially grown, modern hybrids. Once settled it's a deep golden brown colour with a thick, creamy head that's still so what present upon finishing. The bees are a symbol of Manchester, from a time when it was a "hive of industry", but the two bees also represent a pun on the company name of Boddingtons Breweries. The sale was amicable, with both parties aware that Whitbread capital and distribution could make the Boddingtons brand national, although some Boddington family board members had been resistant to the sale.

Aroma of breakfast cereals, that typical 'cooked cloth' smell of pasteurisation throughout, rusk, margarine, unsugared chewing gum, kitchen towels, bitter green tree leaves, rubber, leftover dough, grass, wallpaper paste, wet white paper. In 2004, the owners (now known as InBev) announced plans to close the Strangeways Brewery and move most production from Manchester to Magor in South Wales and Samlesbury, Lancashire, with the loss of 60 jobs. Mind you, similar competition, along with the malt-extract Lass O’Gowrie beers which I found very poor. Boddingtons is a medium-bodied pale ale, that is renowned for its golden color, distinctive creamy head, smooth body and easy drinking character.

There was another small boozer somewhere behind Victoria station that sold Boddies Mild and Bitter from the counter-mounted electric meters. It’s also been suggested that the big difference happened because they stopped fermenting it quite as fully (although that could be tied up with the yeast change, the original was notoriously attenuating). That feels like they had a big brewery that was left half-idle by the 1980s recession, so they were desperately trying to fill it by considering routes to market that they’d previously excluded. Snow white, frothy and dense, quite thick and regular, indeed nitrogen-fuelled head (with the tiny nitrogen bubbles merging into it immediately after pouring, a sight more familiar in e. A classic Mancunian brew, looks stunning as it settles in the glass, no real smell but a great creamy mouthfeel. Black Sheep Ale is a traditional English ale with a unique blend of hops, malts and yeast that have been. The brand's creaminess was emphasised through items such as face cream, ice cream, sun cream and whipped cream.Pale ale or "bitter" rapidly grew in popularity after the Second World War and overtook mild in sales from the 1950s.

Boddingtons had been in decline before the Whitbread takeover, and although it retained an almost "cult" following within its Manchester heartland, only 5 per cent of sales were outside the North West. The Times was damning of what it perceived as InBev's mismanagement of the brand, which had "declined under AB InBev's hands. Amidst falling sales, Interbrew relaunched the cask product in the North West of England, with an increased strength. One of the distinguishing features of the classic Boddies was that it was very fully fermented out, so from an original gravity of around 1035 it achieved a % ABV of 3.

BTW one of them still sports Boddintgons livery and they even refurbished the exterior hanging lights recently.
