About this deal

The taste was fine, a slight“after taste”, not as pronounced as Splenda, and the cranberries added their own natural sweetness. Hi Karen, I did this challenge too, I chose the Blueberry Muffins as my girls adore blueberries, they came out very well and we were all pleased with the results. There will also be a separate warning on the product label that it contains a source of phenylalanine. I understand some people have an aversion to low calorie sugar but if it means I can have my cake and eat it too (without ruining my waistline) I’m all for it!

Silver Spoon Sugar Alternatives

Keep it fruity with a Blueberry Muffin recipe, full of fresh berries, or fill our popular Calorie conscious scones with fresh strawberries - perfect for afternoon tea. They're found in products such as drinks, desserts and ready meals, cakes, chewing gum and toothpaste. In general, everyone should be eating less sugar but lower or no calorie sweeteners can be a useful alternative for people who want to reduce their sugar intake, while maintaining a sweet taste.Sieve the flour into a large bowl, add the margarine or butter and rub in until mixture becomes like breadcrumbs. The sugar refinery in Cupar, Fife, closed in 1971 ending the growth and processing of sugar beet in Scotland; in its heyday in the mid-1930s, 1,500 farmers supplied the Cupar factory. We support food charity FareShare which means any excess sugar in our distribution chain goes to help those who need it most. Silver Spoon Half Spoon Granulated Sugar | Morrisons

There have been reports that the use of sweeteners is linked to other health issues but the evidence base for this is limited.I was interested to see how the Half Spoon Sugar would behave during the bake; experiences with Splenda in the past have always been disappointing, as there was an”after taste” of saccharin, or something similar and the texture was slightly rubbery in cakes. If you ignore the calorie content of the sweetner (negligible), sugar and flour have identical calorie contents of 4KCal per g. The sweetener aspartame is not suitable for people with phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare inherited condition. There is however a proposal to start growing sugar beet in Eastern Scotland again to produce bioethanol. I was part of a team of bloggers and tweeters that had to bake with certain ingredients that help reduce calories in baked goods and cakes.
