Details on colour space coverage aren’t yet available, but it’s likely this will be a middling display in that regard, and therefore won’t be suitable for serious creative work. But if the viewing angles are at least OK, this means this laptop should be better for watching Netflix or iPlayer, when you need a break from gaming. Playing The Witcher 3, the average temperature for the upper side is 37.3 °C / 99 F, compared to the device average of 33.9 °C / 93 F. Rise of the Tomb Raider ran at 24 fps on very high and 1080p, which is under our minimum 30-fps playability threshold as well as the 41-fps category average. The Asus TUF Gaming FX504 (GTX 1050 2GB) barely ran the game at 16 fps, and the MSI GL62M 7REX (GTX 1050 Ti 4GB) didn't do much better, at 22 fps. But the Lenovo Legion Y520 (GTX 1050 Ti 4GB) pulled off 46 fps. Whether it was Shadow of the Tomb Raider or Civilization VI, I was able to get the games running after a bit of tweaking in the video settings. Bear in mind though, even after dropping the graphics settings to medium or low for these two titles, I couldn’t better 30fps. Dell uses an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 in our test model of the G3 15. This graphics card is also suitable for more complex 3D applications but doesn't achieve quite as good benchmark results as other notebooks with this graphics unit. In the 3DMark tests the values are up to 10% below the average of other laptops with this GPU that we tested.My first thought? The Dell G3 doesn’t look like a gaming laptop. There are no flashing RGB lights or snazzy design quirks here. If you saw the G3 sitting on a shelf beside all the student laptops in Currys, you wouldn’t bat an eyelid.
