We like things au natural, so we made our dry shampoo powder formula with a blend of food-based powders and made the particles extra fine so they work better at absorbing unwanted oils from the hair and scalp. Application is super easy with our nifty, little shaker bottle to get the product right where you need it. Since we make gentle products for people with sensitive skin and scalps, we made sure that our version met the requirements of our ingredient philosophy (so no aerosol chemicals whatsoever) and its gentle on the hair and scalp. And even though it’s a white powder, it’s suitable for all hair types and colours. Yes, absolutely, but we recommend only using ones in powder form. Aerosol ingredients can coat the scalp causing further irritation and itchiness, not to mention they aren’t great for the lungs as we keep banging on about. If you have a very dry scalp, we recommend using dry shampoo powders sparingly as they do absorb oils from the hair and scalp, and our natural oils do help keep our scalp hydrated and healthy. The best way to keep your hair healthy in between dry shampoo powder washes is to use gentle, scalp-friendly shampoos and conditioners when you wet wash. We make those too. Natural Dry Shampoo 100g - Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Kaolin, Tapioca Starch, Bentonite, Sodium Bicarbonate, Piroctone Olamine, Fragrance - Oatmeal (Phthalate-Free). We combine small amounts of 5 different natural cleaners as this can be gentler on the hair than one concentrated cleanser. We chose natural cleansers that wash and foam up fairly well, although the foaming action isn’t quite as intense as it would if we used a synthetic detergent like SLS (or other common culprits that end in –fate). But we’re happy to make this small trade-off to use more natural ingredients that are healthier for us and the environment. This just means a little more agitation required to build up the lather, which if you look at it another way, a great excuse for a head massage.
When we first started making products, we used a blend of essentials oils to give them a lovely fragrance. But many people have severe reactions and allergies to them, even in small amounts. As a result, and because we make products for people with sensitive skin, we took them out of most products. Instead, we helped to develop a special kind of fragrant oil, whereby each component in it is less than the EU allergy threshold. This is how we can have a pleasant-smelling product without the reactions. The scents we use are proprietary blends from the company we get them from, and we’ve had no reactions since we made the switch. Also, of course, it is free from phthalates, which is the main concern in fragrances. People (all of us included) turn to a powder formula specifically because Aerosol sprays can have fine chemical particles that are easy to inhale as dry shampoo is used on your head, so they can enter the lungs – which is particle-ly concering (see what we did there?). Aerosol ingredients typically contain volatile hydrocarbons, such as propane, n-butane and isobutene, dimethyl ether (DME), methyl ethyl ether and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, now that's some big words! Not only that, These aerosols can coat the scalp causing irritation and itchiness. No one wants that. A shampoo intended for oily hair has a higher concentration of cleansers than a dry hair shampoo because more cleaning is required. But you can achieve much the same result by just varying the amount of shampoo you use. We use the most gentle natural cleansers and steer clear of synthetic preservatives. It’s also more gentle if accidentally washed into eyes.
