About this deal

Codex Necrons and Codex Adeptus Mechanicus will follow during Winter 2023, and during Spring 2024 we’ll get Codex Dark Angels, Codex Orks, Codex Adeptus Custodes, and Codex T’au Empire.

You can then use that data in the Battle Forge army builder, though you will be limited to just one army list unless you have a Warhammer+ subscription. Also, the three “a”s and the exclamation point is how GW wrote it, and I don’t intend to let them forget that. It’s also possible you’ll mix up both – the power of Deathskulls is more concentrated in their Kultur than the wider options, so an army with a Sunz Warlord and a Deathskulls add-on detachment seems moderately plausible. The Ork dice set comes in a snazzy green, while there are 52 datacards in total, encompassing general and clan-specific Stratagems, 13 psychic powers, and all the core Stratagems for good measure. This is a good time to point out that Warbosses start at S6, and by the time you get enough XP to unlock this relic, a Warboss that’s also a Waaagh! More Dakka also gets changed, now letting you shoot full Dakka shots at full range instead of its old effect, undeniably a bit of a loss as it used to enable some outrageously busted things.

These are meaningful boosts, certainly, and let Shoota Boyz or Lootas (the latter in particular) rack up some big numbers, but our suspicion is that ranged gunplay from this book is going to be mostly driven by Vehicles rather than massed infantry Dakka. I would love, genuinely and truly, for at least one of these to include a letdown of a Crusade section, because I’m running out of ways to say that something rips/slaps/bangs/etc, but it refuses to happen. This allows your Orks to charge after advancing, grants them+1 Strength and +1 Attack in melee, and grants a 5+ invulnerable save for the remainder of the Battle Round.Orks come in several flavors, from the vehicle-obsessed Speed Freeks to the brutal Goffs to the new squig-riding Beast Snaggas. An entire page is devoted to the intricacies of Orkinoid power struggles and the process of selecting new leadership. They take a little more chip damage from random D1 stuff sure, but chip damage is never going to accumulate sufficiently to deal with a wall of T5+ hulls.

Deathskulls end up as not quite the all-star premium Clan they were before, but still one that’s got a lot of potential, especially supporting some of the Vehicle heavy lists.

That reduces the upside of taking a multi-Clan army, as unlocking additional strats was one of the reasons to do that. There’s a certain logic to setting up your gaff in the severed head of a Great Gargant, as well as an undeniable panache, and just a soupçon of elan. With photographic thanks to Nerodine for his lurid Bad Moons, Warbringer for his Deff Skull Speed Waaagh, and Chris James for his grungy Goffs. They’re the ultimate shock cavalry, combining old fashioned hunting methods with Orky technology to break through even the toughest defensive line. That’s not bad, and lets you spoil the fun of models like Drazhar, but probably isn’t the broad boost you’re really looking for.

Wayland Games

Not cheap, but allows you to do some truly horrific stuff with big squads of Boyz, elite stuff like Meganobz or Squighog cavalry, and have the nasty characters they can build solo giant monsters like ain’t no thing. Further support for VEHICLES is provided by their stratagem, which allows a Speed Freekz unit to do a full normal move at the end of your shooting phase, at the cost of being able to Charge. Similar to the release of the Grey Knights and Thousand Sons codexes alongside the Hexfire boxset earlier in 2021, the Genestealer Cults codex and Adeptus Custodes codexhad beenplanned for release alongside the Shadow Thronebattlebox, featuring the two armies in a battle beneath Terra. Prior to the Eldar codex release, GW paraded a load of new models past our eyes, including the brand new Avatar of Khaine, Maugan Ra, Shining Spears, and Warlocks models –plus a stream of of new rules previews for the faction’s Phoenix Lords, Dark Reaper and Howling BansheeAspect Warriors, and iconic Shuriken weapons. For instance, Ghazghkull’s already-spectacular Mork’s Roar goes from Assault 12 to Dakka 16/12 – a significant uptick. In fact, 24 of the 25 miniatures you get in this box are totally new – 20 Boyz armed with shootas, sluggas and choppas, big shootas, and rokkit launchas, as well as the new mega-armoured Warboss, his grot gunner, and three ded-killy Deffkoptas. There’s also the usual assortment ofupdated subfaction rules for the Ork clans, Warlord Traits, Psychic Abilities, Relics, and Crusade campaign rules.
