In this book, you will learn about how to get your allotment, decide what to grow on your allotment, and advise on how to store and cook the produce that you have grown. You certainly will not be an allotment dummie after reading this book. The Best of the Books about Allotments: Allotment Month By Month: Grow your Own Fruit and Vegetables, Know What to do When The RHS Allotment Handbook and Planner – this great allotment planner book comes from the Royal Horticultural Society and is a good beginners allotment book with step by step advice. Buy the allotment handbook from the RHS here. Four stars as I wanted greater depth of information. Useful nevertheless. Classic DK publication with clear, concise articles to give you ideas about where to start, varieties to grow, troubleshooting guide and illustrations on how to do things. not to cause any nuisance or annoyance to the occupiers of other allotments or obstruct any path used by the other occupiers of surrounding allotments;

Best Raised Bed Garden Book: Veg in One Bed: How to Grow an Abundance of Food in One Raised Bed, Month by Month The tenancy agreement will set out the obligations of the allotment holder and what they can or cannot do. Obligations include: Growing vegetables and fruit is not one of those academic things that you can learn from books as you really only learn from a hands on experience. It is simple to follow, clear and covers all the basics. It is a great companion to the first book as it covers the things the other book does not. It does a section on preserving and storing which is a great help.

What I love is that it actually gives you the quantities of plants you need to supply most of your needs without getting a glut. I wouldn’t have known this and it saves over planting. You can, of course, adapt this to your needs.

When it comes to hydroponic gardening books, this is quite simply the best book for hydroponics beginners. It is a fabulous guide to not just getting started in growing vegetables with hydroponics but how to do it without making the mistakes that the author did!
