About this deal

Vana Tallinn is one of Estonia’s hallmark products, manufactured continuously at Liviko since 1960. The exact recipe of the world’s most popular Estonian liqueur is a closely guarded secret. Vana Tallinn liqueur was born, after months of carefully and secret experimenting with bold tastes. Its creators were Ilse Maar, Bernard Jürno, and Jaan Siimo. According to the legend, the model for the weather vane was a peasant boy from the countryside who excelled at the springtime contests involving firing crossbow bolts at a painted wooden parrot on top of a pole, organized by, and for, Tallinn's wealthy citizenry. Unable to receive a prize because of his low-born status, Thomas was rewarded with the job of town guard for life. [2]

This is the Estonian version of Irish coffee. It is popular among tourists, especially those visiting Old Town. All the best bars in Tallinn have it on their offer. The principle is the same as with Irish coffee, nothing that innovative. But the taste is so much richer, as the gentle nuances of rum and spice pair perfectly with a good cup of coffee. The tower-shaped bottle of the classic Vana Tallinn was inspired by the Old Town of Tallinn, depicting the towers of the UNESCO World Heritage listed medieval city wall.

[2] Juniper berries exude a mystical serenity and dignity, partly because the berries are allowed to ripen on shrubs undisturbed for two years. Ripe juniper berries are distilled under the careful supervision of Liviko’s master ginsmiths, to become the main ingredient in Liviko’s renowned gins. Similarly, other carefully selected herbal components are also distilled, to create classic as well as distinctively flavoured gins. According to ancient folk wisdom, anyone who eats a juniper berry every day will live a long and happy life. In May 1994 the ship was sold to Inreko, at the time one of the owners of Tallink, who renamed her MS Vana Tallinn and placed her on the Helsinki–Tallinn route. Already in September 1994 a rift developed between Inreko and ESCO, the two owners of Tallink. As a result, Inreko withdrew from Tallink, and chartered the Vana Tallinn to ESCO who continued to operate her on the same route under the same name (from the passenger's point of view nothing changed, which has led to some confusing records from this time of the ship's history). Continuous disputes about the charter price of the ship led to breaking the charter agreement in November 1996, and in December of the same year Inreko founded TH Ferries, which began operating the Vana Tallinn on the Helsinki–Tallinn route in competition to Tallink. However, in January 1998 the ship was sold to Hansatee (now the owners of Tallink), and returned to Tallink's colours, still sailing on the same route under the same name. Vana Tallinn (Literal translation: " Old Tallinn") is an Estonian brand of liqueur manufactured continuously by Liviko since 1960. The recipe contains Jamaican rum and a variety of herbs and spices.
