About this deal

When purchasing a watch which has a metal bracelet with adjustable links, we will gladly adjust the watch bracelet to fit your wrist before sending the watch to you - free of charge! It is today one of the largest watch manufacturers today if we look at production numbers, and its great popularity has led to the brand releasing countless models in terms of design, purpose, and also price. Seiko’s watches range in price from less than 100 USD up to the thousands. Paying more than a thousand dollars, or even more than five hundred dollars for a Seiko is not something everyone is willing to do, but if we look at some of these watches in detail, it becomes very evident that you really get a lot in return. And in many cases, they still prove to be great value for money. In the same vein as what’s been done in 2019, as well as what we’ve seen on the King Samurai and King Turtle, Seiko this year once again adds another layer of high-end materials to one of its emblematic watches. The previous Sumo already started with a sapphire crystal. The 2022 Seiko Sumo focus on the resistance of all external parts, with new materials, as well as its looks, with new colours and dials. The watch is equipped with a sapphire crystal, making it extremely durable in rough conditions, and with a water resistance of 200M, you won’t have to worry about using your watch in water. Although the water resistance is told to be 200M, Seiko always tests their watches to see if they can handle more pressure than they are made for, which is done by always testing 25% more than what is specified. With that said, inofficially the case is 250M water-resistant. The lugs are 20mm, which is one of the most common sizes for watch straps, and with the drilled holes on the side, it is easy to remove and change straps and bracelets on it.The drilled lugs also contribute to giving the watch a more tool-like appearance which really enriches the tool-like look. Looking at the case and the overall design, these updated Sumo SPB321J1 and SPB323J1 are typical no-surprise models. It’s all about improving the quality, not the style. As such, the oversized dimensions of the original Sumo are maintained. No downsizing policy here, the Sumo was and still is a large watch with a 45mm diameter, a 12.9mm height and an unmistakable lug-to-lug measurement of over 52mm. Reading this will certainly stop more than one potential customer, however, keep in mind that despite what the specification sheet indicated, the Sumo has always been more comfortable on the wrist than you’ll ever imagine. But don’t expect the comfort of one of the new compact Prospex. The Sumo SPB321J1 here worn on our editor Robin’s 19cm wrist.

Leather strap watches tend to fit without a problem for most wearers. However, watches fitted with metal bracelets often need adjusting to get the perfect fit. I bought the Seiko Prospex Automatic Sumo SPB101J1 about ten days ago and I have been wearing it daily since then with great satisfaction. The watch is presented on a three-link satin-brushed bracelet with polished edges on the middle links. The bracelet has a diver’s extension and safety clasp.Because already at first glance, you will notice that the Seiko SPB103j1 and all of the other Seiko watches are big, bulky, and have a hefty weight. This is part of the personality of the Sumo, which of course goes very well with the purpose of the watches. This is generally a very simple procedure. We can do this for you, or you can get the watch adjusted locally. Option 1. Specify your wrist measurement and we will adjust it before being sent The movement is perhaps the biggest difference going from Seiko’s 14-year-old 6R15 to the new in-house caliber 6R35. The movement is automatic with a central rotor and offers a power reserve of 70 hours, which is a huge improvement of 20 hours from the 6R15. This robust and durable movement gives makes this SeikoSPB101J1 a greatwatch in this price class. The movement beats at a 3Hz frequency making 21.600 beats per hour. The bracelet is very beautifully finished and feels solid. Generally, affordable watches tend to compromise on the bracelet the most and have things like folded links and hollow end links which results in the impression of poor finish, but with this bracelet, Seiko shows that you actually get your money’s worth.

The Seiko Sumo is also known as the MM200, which stands for ”Marinemaster 200” because of the similarities with the much more expensive SLA021J1 known as the real MarineMaster ”MM300”. This truly is a great watch for the money and is a perfect entry-level professional Divers watch, Let’s have a deeper understanding of why that is so, and go into detail about theSeiko Prospex Sumo SPB101J1 Automatic Watch.

The new SPB103J1, a technical and visual update

As a dive watch should, the SPB103j1 offers great legibility. It has large hour markers and hands which provide excellent contrast against the green dial. The only downside for me is the pins and collars system for the bracelet links. I fitted the bracelet myself for my wrist and it was quite a battle.

There are some updates though, mainly for the bezel and the dial. First, the still bezel retains its coin-edge profile and is still unidirectional with a 60-minute scale. Yet, you’ll notice that the insert has new fonts, without the extended “fat” numerals. It does, however, retain its internal facet. The second evolution regards the crystal. Previously made in mineral “Hardlex” glass, Seiko fits its new Sumo SPB103J1 with a sapphire crystal. When it comes to comparable watches to the Seiko Prospex Sumo (Reference: SPB101J1), there are a few options worth considering. One such watch is the Seiko Prospex Turtle (SRP777). Like the Sumo, the Turtle is a dive watch with a similar design and build quality. It also features a reliable automatic movement and a durable stainless steel case. However, the Turtle is slightly smaller than the Sumo, making it a better option for those with smaller wrists. The Seiko SPB101J1 (SBDC083 ), also known as the Seiko Sumo, is perhaps one of the greatest entry-level sports watches and one of the better built-in Seikos line-up for the money. In 2019 Seiko finally updated their Sumo models giving them a slightly different and refined look, but perhaps most important an in-house improved movement Caliber 6R35. Overall, the dial is very well executed and manages to stay true to the Sumo design, whilst adding a very vibrant colorful touch. The lime on this watch is great and glows brightly for many hours, which we expect in a dive watch. The SPB103j1 was released in 2019 and is the successor of the previous model SBDC031 which it replaced. The Seiko Prospex Sumo is powered by Seiko’s 6R35 automatic movement, which provides a power reserve of up to 70 hours. The movement is accurate and reliable, and has been tested to meet Seiko’s high standards for precision and durability. Since 2007, the Sumo watches used the 6R15, and whilst this proved to be a trusted, sturdy, and reliable workhorse movement, Seiko decided it was time for an upgrade for this watch and therefore, it is powered by the latest version, the 6R35. This movement is still the same base but has been improved and refined. In 2019, under the new references SPB101J1 and SPB103J1, the Sumo was slightly revised. The overall design was maintained, with only minor alterations. The bezel insert was redesigned with a more discreet scale, a new green dial/bezel model was launched. What really changed was the use of a sapphire crystal and the new calibre 6R35, with a beefed-up power reserve. The 2022 Seiko Sumo
