About this deal

POCO differentiates itself from MIUI on Xiaomi and Redmi phones in a few ways. MIUI for POCO has more modern icons, and you won't find any ads in the interface. POCO was also the first to introduce an app drawer, and it continues to offer new software features. On that front, POCO says that it will start delivering exclusive software features to its devices starting later this year.

POCO hasn't changed things on the camera front. The M3 Pro offers the same 48MP camera as the standard M3, and you miss out on a wide-angle lens here as well. The phone has two 2MP modules — a macro and a portrait lens — and you won't get much usage out of these. If you want truly great cameras, the Redmi Note 10 series is a better option to consider. Xiaomi's budget series has AMOLED panels as standard, robust hardware, 33W fast charging, and stellar cameras in this segment.FHD The rear camera on the Xiaomi Poco M3 Pro 5G is okay in most situations but not much more than that. It comes with a triple-lens 48MP wide + 2MP macro + 2MP depth configuration, so you don't get anything in the way of ultra-wide or telephoto zoom here.

The M3 Pro features the same 48MP camera as the standard M3, and while it holds up pretty fine in daylight scenarios, low-light photos have a lot to be desired. If you want a budget phone that takes great photos in all conditions, you should take a look at the Redmi Note 10 series. Performance is one area where budget phones in the last couple of years have struggled. The Poco M3 is powered by a Snapdragon 662 processor, an octa-core chipset built on an 11nm fabrication process that runs at a max frequency of 2.05GHz and has a third-gen AI engine. Adreno 610 GPU will handle the graphics and gaming on the phone. When the screen is not in motion, it maintains a 50Hz refresh rate and automatically lowers the frequency to reduce power consumption. On the front there's a single-lens 8MP wide camera, which will do the job for your selfies but isn't going to stand up to any kind of challenging conditions.Low light proves challenging for the Poco M3 Pro 5G – you can get some usable photos in the evening, if there is a bit of light available, but in general there are more misses than hits. The camera is usually one of the giveaways when you're spending less on a smartphone, and that proves to be the case here: if you want smartphone photos that you can rely on, then it might be worth investing in a more expensive handset.

The M3 Pro runs MIUI 12.0.5 based on Android 11 out of the box, and there's significantly less bloatware than the standard version of the M3. Xiaomi has done a great job cleaning up MIUI with the Android 11 update, and that's immediately evident when you get started with the M3 Pro 5G. MIUI 12 has been around for a while, and I'm excited for the device to make the switch to MIUI 12.5. Xiaomi is giving you the ability to uninstall system apps with MIUI 12.5, and that means whatever Xiaomi services are present on the M3 Pro can be uninstalled. POCO will integrate these changes as well once MIUI 12.5 rolls out. In terms of optics, you are looking at a triple camera setup with a 48MP primary sensor with a 1/2" sensor size, f/1.79 aperture, autofocus, etc. This is followed by a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor both with f/2.2 aperture. There is a dual-LED flash for the low-light scenario. Selfies are handled by an 8MP shooter which is located inside the dew-drop notch. Software duties are well handled by Android 11 and the usual Xiaomi MIUI skin (MIUI 12 in this case). We're not the biggest fans of MIUI, with its collection of unnecessary bonus apps and rather overdone design choices in certain places, but it's not terrible – you might get along with it perfectly well (and as this is Android, you can always install an alternative launcher anyway). Battery life It's a shame that POCO didn't do more on the camera side of things, considering the hardware and screen got a noticeable upgrade over the M3. The brand could have differentiated the phone by adding a wide-angle lens, but that isn't the case. The fact that it is on par with the POCO X3 should be welcome news if you're eyeing the phone. The Dimensity 700 is a great budget design, and you even get 5G connectivity. The M3 Pro is available with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, and 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. POCO is also adding marginally faster UFS 2.2 as standard; the regular M3 had UFS 2.1 for the 64GB model and 2.2 for the 128GB version. As for 5G connectivity, the global version of the M3 Pro has 5G bands n1/n3/n7/n8/n20/n28/n38/n40/n41/n66/n77/n78. These bands will vary by region — the Indian model is likely to offer much more limited 5G connectivity to save costs. The phone also gets Bluetooth 5.1, and while the global unit I'm using has NFC, the Indian model will not have the feature. F/1.8 وهي الكاميرا الأساسية أما عن الكاميرا الثانية فتأتي بدقة 2 ميجا بكسل بفتحة عدسة F/2.4 وهي الخاصة بالتصوير الماكرو أما عن الكاميرا الثالثة فتأتي بدقة 2 ميجا بكسل بفتحة عدسة F/2.4 وهي الكاميرا الخاصة بعمل العزل والبورتريه بالإضافة إلى فلاش ثنائي من نوع ليد فلاش . Country Director of POCO, Anuj Sharma explains the reason for rebranding Redmi devices". gizmochina. 8 October 2020.

It's great to see POCO bring a 90Hz panel to the budget segment, and like most of its devices, there's dynamic refresh to maximize battery life. Based on the content that's being viewed on the screen, the M3 Pro dynamically switches to 90Hz, 60Hz, and 50Hz, with an upcoming software update bringing 30Hz.

The device has been tested in a controlled laboratory conditions which meets requirements of Classification IP53 as described by the International Standard IEC 60529. In the case of the M3 Pro we've not had notification issues like with some Xiaomi phones, instead there's some instability with certain apps. On reapeat we would get crash notifications for Photos, for example, with a report card popping up. While playing South Park: Phone Destroyer a 'file not found' pop-up would appear - something we've never seen in years of playing the game.
