About this deal

Where the story got scary was when the head of the CIA wanted the incumbent president to increase military spending to counter a perceived Russian threat. Het is pas een eind in het tweede deel van het boek dat de spanning er echt in komt, en dan gaat het eigenlijk razendsnel. Zo snel dat het moeilijk was het boek weg te leggen. On February 2, 2002, Stephen King, Pat Conroy, John Grisham and Peter Straub gathered at New York's Town Hall for a very special evening. These four bestselling authors stepped up to the microphone to raise money for one of the most recognizable voices in audiobooks, Frank Muller, an actor who sustained terrible injuries from a motorcycle accident. Muller, who has recorded hundreds of novels, including many by these authors, may never work again.

There's not a single likable main character in this book and I hoped every single one of them would go down in flames. Of course that doesn't happen (and I really didn't really expect it to). Nevertheless, I was disappointed in the book's finale. In addition, there's a whiff of homophobia about the story (IMO)....though this may have been unintentional. Director Joel Schumacher made this legal thriller, based on John Grisham’s fourth ‘The Client’.With the cast of Susan Saanson and Tommy Lee Jones and a thrilling story-line,the film turned out to be an overall success. Two brothers witness the suicide of a mob lawyer, because of it one of them faces serious mental condition. Mob and authorities are concerned whether the lawyer has revealed their secrets to those kids. The kids face a grave danger as an assassin follows them. They later seek the help of an alcoholic advocate Regina “Reggie” Love (Susan Saanson), who helps them. Critics and audience equally praised the pace, thrilling and chilling atmosphere. Susan Saanson’s performance is considered brilliant as she received nomination for “Best Actress in The Leading Role”. She won the Golden Globe the same year. This book has all the elements of a good spy story! Double-crossing, manhunt, disguise, even a love story.

His debut novel, A Time to Kill, was published in 1989, while his second novel, The Firm (1991), was received well, selling more than seven million copies. In my review of Dan Brown’s novels ( Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code) I likened his style to a mix of Dorothy Dunnett and Michael Crichton insofar as his skill at setting the historic and geographic scene for his novels is similar to theirs. Indeed, these three are real pros. I hesitate to name the author of this book in the paragraph for fear online searchers will think I’m putting them in the same category. Suspicions are easy enough, but proof seems impossible. The man is brilliant, patient, and always one step ahead of law enforcement. He is the most cunning of all serial killers. He knows forensics, police procedure, and most important: he knows the law. In the summer of his seventeenth year, Samuel Sooleymon gets the chance of a lifetime: a trip to the United States with his South Sudanese teammates to play in a showcase basketball tournament. He has never been away from home, nor has he ever been on an airplane. The opportunity to be scouted by dozens of college coaches is a dream come true. They have dreamt up a perfect scam, to pose as homosexuals looking for Pen Pals, their motive, to scam and exploit their pen pals. Then one day, Congressman Aaron Lake is running for President of the United States in hoping to expand America's Military capabilities, with a corrupt government official pulling the strings. Realizing that Lake is hooked by the Brethren and their scam, the conspirators must prevent them from discovering the truth. The Brethren have found the perfect victim.

And speaking of that satellite system, Grisham should ask any high school science teacher how fast a satellite in a 300 mile orbit would be travelling. Trust me, it's a lot more than 120 mph. Tom Clancy can rest easy. When the current Presidents term was just about over he gave, much to Joel’s delight and surprise, a pardon for past wrong doings. The reality was that this was a CIA ruse to see who would kill Joel first. But in a world of secrets there was one secret that the CIA did not know, their candidate was gay and the judges were turning the screws. This was, at it’s best, just so-so. There bits that were intriguing and bits that just went on and on.
