About this deal

Elizabeth Hurley took showing off her stunning figure to a whole new level with a special Valentine’s Day picture of her posing completely nude in bed. It has mostly been men who decide the restrictive roles women are assigned, confining them to be Venus, bride, wife, mother, child, or monster. Moving past familiar works, mainly European paintings at the National Gallery and the Tate Modern in London, she aims a feminist, intersectional gaze at women as subjects and makers. And yet — we’re a long way away from women being able to rejoice in their naked bodies without judgment, particularly if the woman in question dares to be anything other than 20-years-old and a size zero.

there were several strands to the plot which were never brought together and a host of minor characters who seemed to add nothing to the story. This is explored through characters such as Ophelia who literally drowns in self-pity after getting rejected by a man, with this instance considered her most beautiful and perfect state. However, I really enjoyed the philosophy behind what I think the author was trying to get at, and that is why I give it 4 out of 5 stars. This autumn saw a solo exhibition of the late African-American photographer Gordon Parks, following a stunning solo booth at Frieze Masters last October.

The documentary camera never lies, it seems - but, against a background of the dislocations of surrealism, our hero finds himself at the mercy of something that defies logic. It also reminds visitors that some talented women caught the eye of European royal courts, and that some had husbands who helped them in the studio – or even looked after their children – because they knew that their wives’ gifts far exceeded their own.

Women's identity has long been stifled by a limited set of archetypes, found everywhere in pictures from art history's classics to advertising, while women artists have been overlooked and held back from shaping more empowering roles. Her parents, dealing with behavior they didn’t understand—including self-cutting—sent her to “a high-security mental hospital” as a day patient.

What is constant is Miss Weedon, the secretary of Arthur Maxted’s (Henry’s boss) who is obviously infatuated with Henry.

Through the years, she took many nude photographs of her mother, who, she says, had a remarkable ease in her own skin. Or do Miranda's half-repressed childhood memories hint at an altogether more complex and extraordinary truth? Maybe it’s a bit idealistic, but I believe that if an artist is truly great then they will get there if given the right platform. Each of the four chapters, Venus, Mothers, Maidens and Dead Damsels, and Monstrous Women starts with an introduction to one or more classic paintings related to the topic. She ranges through Western art—think Titian, Botticelli, and Millais—and the image-saturated world of fashion photographs, advertisements, and social media, and boldly counters these depictions by turning to the work of women artists like Morisot, Ringgold, Lacy, and Walker, who offer alternative images for exploring women’s identity, sexuality, race, and power in more complex ways.

I think the problem lies within the way the story immediately starts to inexplicably changes from one narrative to another. For anyone interested in understanding the connection between art, culture, self-perception, race and much more, this is a crucial starting point. Despite all the dark history linked to the “monstrous women” , the women have been trying to re-claim the “ monsters “ and to have their own voices heard. Fast-forward 250 years, and McCormack brings into focus all the paintings of “horizontal bodies of maidens [that] line our art galleries” — a shift in perspective that makes it impossible to ignore the implied content of the images of naked or barely draped female bodies and the “abduction” scenes that wallpaper museums.Equally damaging, she added, was how historians had played down the achievements of women until their voices were silenced and their creations overlooked and then hidden from view. They generally lived in an extremely patriarchal system that denied them their rights and in which their signatures had no legal value. The Woman in the Picture” is so multi-layered that it took me virtually the whole book to grasp the implications behind the title of this marvellous novel. She was nothing if not studious, obsessively focused on foreign languages, but she found it difficult to converse in her own language. Britney Spears has been posting a ton of nudes to Instagram since the end of her conservatorship, and she’s kept the good times rolling all through this fall, sharing naked photos of herselfand showing off just how good 41 looks on her.
