About this deal

You initiated this conversion with your spell-binding review of Kalemat – which sure is ridiculously lovely but which had me craving darkness.

This interpretation of the scent of dried tobacco leaves is inspired by a fond memory of Madame de Nicolaï: the cigar humidor in the house where she grew up, belonging to the Guerlain family. After several minutes, it softens and the promised tobacco is much more recognizable, along with a pleasant, subtle floral soapiness.I don't want to smell like a walking shisha moassel (arabian water pipes where tobacco is mixed with fruit molasses), thanks but no! I smell it as an arpeggio of floral, woody and herbal tones, but he tobacco takes two forms: the humidor and the fresh tobacco leaf. Even though I don’t love a strong licorice note (well, there are exceptions: I do like it in SL Borneo 1834), this sounds like it could be my kind of perfume, as I love tobacco-leather combos, and your description of the way the dry-down on this smoothes out into calfskin leather makes it sound very sensual in that stage of its development. There is a sweet, caramel-patchouli inflection to the quiet but durable basenotes that is the balanced, pleasant version of Thierry Mugler A*Men’s hangover of a drydown. The drydown is where this fragrance shines as it becomes a slightly soapy/clean warm scent as the base note come forward and mingle with the floral notes.

Solid as a battleship and fascinating as a Rubik's cube, Cuir Cuba opens with minty lavender, noticeable licorice and layer upon layer of various spices. I can feel the quality of ingredients used in the making of this thing, but the end result is awful to my nose! I far preferred it when the licorice was evident, not subsumed within the tobacco, because it added a sweetness to the notes and countered the aromachemical nuances. We are truly happy that Patricia de Nicolai started her own independent haute parfum brand in 1989: Nicolaï Paris. I will add that Guerlains don’t do much for me either, ‘cept for Jicky (and again, on a hot day), but I appreciate their historical importance.

There is also a long, detailed review for the fragrance by Fragrantica’s Serguey Borisov that you can read. Manly, which certainly isn't a fault, but for me the lack of sweetness or spice was pretty disappointing. Nicolai Cuir Cuba Intense is a bold and evocative fragrance that captures the essence of a smoky and captivating Cuban cigar infused with the luxurious aroma of leather, launched in 2014. Up-end the vial, smear it broadly in a 2-3 inch wide patch across your arm, and repeat that about 2-3 times. As you smell the Magnolia there are a lot of other notes that are dancing and interweaving through this main accord.

Although I hate smoking, I have always loved the scent of tobacco leaves used in the making of cigars. On occasion, Cuir Cuba Intense’s opening bouquet demonstrates a subtle streak of lemon-like creaminess in the base, but it never reads like a clear, strong magnolia note on my skin.Serge Noire is something I would normally advise caution with, but you’ve said you’ve grown to love a lot of cumin, and I think you love cloves as well, so it might work for you. There are hints of Ylang Ylang and other notes but the fragrance is so complex I just cannot pick them out to Id them. All I had smelled from the brand thus far was New York Intense which smells like something even my grandfather would have found old school.

I really don't think I'd like to wear this in the summer when it's hot and humid because it becomes very sweet smelling during mid wear. She builds on a tradition of excellence in perfumery, making use of the most valuable raw materials with a chic personal recognizable style. So, in an attempt to guide the salesperson towards changing my perception, I asked them for something a bit odd, a bit non-traditional.S.: Luckyscent normally carries the PdN line, but does not yet have Cuir Cuba at the time of this review. Cuir Cuba Intense’s bouquet is now primarily creamy leather with civet, tobacco, and a very quiet, muted touch of skin-like muskiness. As the scent develops, the heart notes reveal a blend of cumin, lavender, coriander, magnolia, ylang-ylang and geranium. Charabot, a French perfume ingredient company, says Liatris leaves also have an aroma like tobacco or hay. Later on the fragrance begins to become less loud and closer to the skin, and at this moment the spiciness increases and the overall smell starts to resemble the smell of a shisha-pipe, but quite fresh at the same time.
