Jeb cloned Ari perfectly, retaining all of his memories. The new Ari was accompanied by a crew of other clones known as the Not-Aris, who were sent with a mission to kill Fang. This clone killed Maya, but was later killed in turn by Dylan. Fang was also 14 years old (15 in FANG, ANGEL, and Nevermore), and is Max's second-in-command, as well as the person she trusts most after herself. Fang is additionally Max's best friend and soulmate. In the book, Jeb is accompanied by an unnamed male scientist when Max and Max II begin fighting; in the manga, he is accompanied by the Director. The first volume of the manga adaptation was released on January 27, 2009, and features Max on the cover. It details the first half of The Angel Experiment. At the end, there are a few words from NaRae Lee as well as a preview of MAX.
Ari's greatest desire was to have his father be proud of him, and he was extremely and horribly jealous of how his father doted on Max. This expressed itself violently; he talked about choking Jeb to get more attention. He was ecstatic when Jeb expressed pride in School's Out - Forever, when Ari laid out his plan to steal Max. Volume 4 was released in April 2011 and features Nudge on the cover. It almost finishes the second book but cuts off right before the real Max battles with Max II. It is the first—and so far the only—volume to have a brief character profile at the beginning. The art style also changes slightly. At the end is a preview of the Witch & Wizard manga as well as an advertisement for other James Patterson books/manga adaptations and Yen Press. The book is one of the series of books written by James Patterson. The other books are Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment, Maximum Ride: Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports and Maximum Ride: School’s Out Forever. The author is expected to bring out more books having the same characters but we will have to wait and see.

While working in Chad, Angel reveals that Fang will be "the first to die." He is the only one who doesn't look upset. Later that night, he tells Max not to worry about it, and that "it has to be me first. However, in the second and third book, his thoughts and feelings were more like those of a seven-year-old. In the second book, he stole a Game Boy and was disgusted by a woman holding a bra in public. His star sign, according to Angel, is Scorpio (revealed in the epilogue of FANG among materials from his blog).
