About this deal

Update 1/25/22: Reposting my review to celebrate that today is publication day! That was the day it all began. Luna and Owen. Owen and Luna. Their names would be inextricably linked for years to come. The one steady thing in their unsteady lives. Before long, neither would be able to imagine a life without the other. It would be hard not to admire the strength of their bond. However, if you were in their orbit, you might come to realize that it was a dangerous place to be. Not everyone there made it out alive. Thanks to Random House Publishing Group and NetGalley for sending me an ARC of The Accomplice in exchange for an honest review. I am a huge fan of Ms. Lutz’s last novel, the criminally underrated The Swallows, so I could not wait to dig into her newest book. What I didn’t like: it seemed a bit long. oh and did I mention my eyes hurt?! In all honesty though it may have seemed long because I couldn’t put it down! As reference was to have a nice day out but still basically in Jammie’s and this took precedence over everything else! Luna and Owen have been best friends for over a decade. Their bond runs incredibly deep, sometimes to the detriment of others in their lives.

Eddie is informed in no uncertain terms that he will get Carrie acquitted or pay the price so he enlists the help of ex FBI agent, Gabriel Lake, to help him gather the intel he needs.

Additionally, the narrative was such a twisted web. My word! Every single person was keeping secrets on some level. And that, my friends, is where Eddie Flynn comes in. Carrie already has a high profile lawyer on the case, but Otto Peltier is used to dealing with tax havens and other such financial matters for his mega-rich clients. He’s savvy enough to realise that he’s out of his depth, and turns to Eddie and his team for help. If Carrie is innocent, can they turn the tide of hatred thats flowing around her and prove it? The intrigue of the story only built up over time, not faltering once. This is both impressive and entertaining, as I was fully-focused at all times due to Lutz’s gripping writing.

Told in two timelines, the past when the two first met in college and present, when trying to piece together this latest murder. Overall, this is a hard-to-put-down and compelling tale with mysterious undertones, suspenseful chapters that keep you hooked, and brilliant/biting dialogue (which I really love). This, paired with the equally-rivetingwriting style, allowed the story and the characters within it to shine. Owen and Luna are perfect main characters; their personalities are so different, yet they fit together like pieces of a puzzle. In 2016, long before I started reviewing books, I read “The Passenger”. Apparently, I found the story to be a 3 ⭐️ read, but I liked the ending enough to add an extra half star, for a 3.5 rating. Years later, both Luna and Owen are married to their respective partners. One day, Luna finds Owen’s wife, Irene, shot dead in a cemetery. Who would do such a thing? Luna is absolutely sure Owen wouldn’t do something like that.

What was missing from this novel was Lutz's dry sense of humor. I think I would have liked the book much more had there been more snark. And what was with all of the characters being SO thirsty all the time and "guzzling" and "gulping" water? That was so weird and mentioned so often I thought there might be a purpose behind it but alas, no. Did Owen kill Irene and if yes, does this mean he killed his ex-girlfriend in college too? Has Luna been wrong about Owen all this time? Can she live with herself if this is true? With his wife on trial, Daniel Miller is forced to come out of hiding to save her from a life sentence. He will kill to protect her and everyone involved in the case is a target.
