About this deal

The place where Brooks put most of their attention is in a slightly updated upper. Although the look of the upper is very similar to last year, Brooks changed the mesh materials to use a double jacquard mesh. You won’t experience “your softest run ever” in the Glycerin 19 like Brooks advertises. Compared to the other max-cushioned trainers, the Glycerin 19’s ride is a tad firmer but it is more stable because there is less lean bias. The extra pressure causes the shoe to become more firm and responsive. When you are lightly jogging, you apply less pressure to the midsole. This causes the midsole to be softer and less responsive.

For those running in harsh winter conditions, the midsole does freeze a little bit. The ride becomes less soft, and you might be better off choosing a shoe with a TPU style midsole. The Glycerin is still a great choice. Exceptional traction The Glycerin 18 is one of our favourite options when it comes to daily training miles, offering an incredibly comfortable and enjoyable shoe to run in whether you're doing 5km or 42km. For those runners looking for a fast shoe on race day, there are far better options out there. However, it could be a great choice for those running a half marathon or a full marathon where the focus is covering the distance in as much comfort as possible. ADRIENNE: The Glycerin 18 is perfect for runners who think there’s no such thing as too much cushioning. If nothing else, Brooks knows it’s target consumer. But does the Glycerin 18 live up to this assertion? We will see. The Ghost and the Glycerin are two shoes known for their high levels of stability and the Ghost and Glycerin continue the trend. The Ghost is overall more stable than the Glycerin because it has a firmer midsole and less lean bias than the Glycerin. Personally, I like my running shoes to have a little more support on my longer runs, which is why my go-to Brooks easy shoe is the Ghost 12, which have slightly more stability.

The BioMoGo part of BioMoGo DNA means that in an anaerobic landfill, the midsole will decompose within 20 years, compared to the thousands of years that it takes other midsole materials to decompose. First is the upgraded DNA Loft foam that makes up the midsole. The material is almost identical to that found in the Glycerin 17, albeit with a slightly softer cushioning. It's also a touch lighter than the 17, although it's unlikely that any runner will notice the difference. AUSTIN: I’d prefer a bit more response from the Glycerin 18, but I knew before my first run that this model is touted as high cushion. Which means a little more sink and a little less pop. As Adrienne noted in her review, I’m loving the responsive ride of the New Balance 1080 v10, which combines high cushioning with stellar snap. I’d prefer an 8 mm drop, but that’s a minor critique based strictly on general preference. Shop Brooks Glycerin 18 Brooks Glycerin 18 Conclusion We've spent the past few weeks putting the Brooks Glycerin 18 through it's still one of the best options out there for those who care about comfort over speed. In this case, Brooks realized they hit pretty darn close to the mark with the 16s and 17s and haven’t changed much. But the changes do improve on the product from last year.

This technology gives the perfect soft ride on slow jogs and a snappier feel on tempo runs. It is, of course, not universal, so a racing shoe will still trump the Glycerin during a race, but for a one-shoe kind of runner, this adaptive ride is a great choice.ADRIENNE: With this iteration, Brooks appears to be heading in a decent direction. Those who are fans of previous Glycerin models will likely be fans of this one as well. The 18 is lighter, weighing in at 9.0 oz for my size 9. It may not be a spectacle, ride-wise, but the cushioning is reliable, consistent, and the shoe doesn’t feel heavy on the foot or in the hand. The upper and shifts in midsole-outsole ratio are likely the reason why. This long piece of rubber makes ride transitions smoother and also increases midfoot stability and structure because there is less flex in the midfoot. The upper looks nice and is hella comfortable, however, I wish it were a little more dialed in. This may be more Adrienne than Brooks. Of course, depending on the type of running you participate in, there may be more specialized running shoes that provide more comfort for that purpose, but as a general daily trainer, the Glycerin takes the prize, as long as the shoe fits.

Consider coming into a store and doing a video gait analysis. Gait analysis monitors your body’s movement and your feet (sports biomechanics) whilst running. It’s commonly used to help athletes run more efficiently and to identify movement related problems for people with injuries who are seeking new running shoes. Ride transitions are very smooth in both the Glycerin and the Ghost due to their single-density midsoles. The latest versions of the Nimbus, Triumph, and Clifton are all softer shoes than the Glycerin 18. Now, with the release of the Invincible, it’s hard to imagine that any shoe could be softer. There’s a reason the Glycerins are working on their 18th iteration. It’s because they are a superior product, and they hold up with each update. If you’re looking for a super soft, super-bouncy ride similar to the ZoomX Invincible, you won’t find it in the Glycerin 19.

Believe X Tracksmith Trackhouse Sweatshirt (Unisex)

There’s nothing wrong with being a firm, max-cushioned shoe. Some runners prefer firmer shoes because they are more stable and more responsive but the problem is that the advertising for the Glycerin is misleading. The outsoles of the two shoes are very similar but the Ghost has flex grooves that run through from end to end on the forefoot. The Glycerin has flex grooves that stop halfway through the forefoot and results in a forefoot that isn’t as flexible as the forefoot of the Ghost. It’s very important to know your running gait so that we can advise and fit the correct shoes according to your own individual requirements. Can’t get into store? Try a wet foot test
