About this deal

We also liked how versatile these ramekins are. We took them straight from the freezer to the oven and they held out well. The heat distribution is even, and everything we baked in these turned out the way it was supposed to. We tested their higher temperature range of 500 degrees and successfully broiled portions of vegetable and cheese casseroles. One downside here, however, was that the flatness and straight edges made them hard to grab from a bain-marie, so we used a strong metal flat spatula to lift them up.

A few things can lead to that. 1. Silicone cups seem to cook the fastest at 12 minutes and then the ramekins, but please note that there are two different sizes of those white ramekins. Mine in the photos are larger and held one cup of the mixture, just as a gauge so I had to increase my time to 15-16 minutes. A large mixing bowl is required for most kinds of baking. And, since many recipes often require several mixing bowls, don’t stop at just one. It’s such a drag to have to put a dough or a cream in another vessel, clean out the bowl, and then re-use it for the next step of the baking process. So, it’s best to get at least two. Most ramekins are made from porcelain. This is traditional, affordable and very durable. Porcelain can be cleaned in the dishwasher, and it’s usually oven safe to high temperatures. If you make too much food, porcelain ramekins can be filled with the excess and stored in either the fridge or freezer. One of the essential considerations is to look at the purpose for which you want to buy ramekins. The primary use in the majority of the cases is prepping, cooking, baking, holding, and serving the dishes. Once you are 100% sure about your purpose, you should consider the size – the next important thing! Size These Dowan 4-ounce ramekins are true to their capacity with room to spare. We used these to serve nuts, olives, and dips, and they worked fabulously for single portions of oeufs en cocotte and crème brûlée. Everything baked evenly and they retained heat, while the classic style made an elegant presentation on the charcuterie board. We noticed that these were a bit smaller for savory soufflé dishes—we wanted something with a bit more capacity—but they worked well for decadent chocolate soufflé. In both sweet and savory soufflé applications, the batter rose evenly and did not dry out. These are used as dishes for baking cakes and bread. The Creme Brulé is one of the good examples of a dish that looks good when prepared in a ramekin. If your ramekins are oven-safe, they can go in the Instant Pot or air fryer. Just make sure to compare the temperature threshold on the product you’re using with the temperature required for your recipe.

The largest ramekins are best suited to starters, salads and quiches. Individual pies or portions of lasagne look great in large ramekins. Ramekins FAQ What is a ramekin used for?The size of the ramekins does matter as well! Each size is suitable for a separate dish and purpose. Let’s have a look at a few uses of the available sizes:

For instance, porcelain is very good in this property. Porcelain/Ceramic ramekins are usually almost always safe for the freezer, dishwasher, and oven. Safe and non-toxic While these ramekins are on the smaller side, we noticed that they are a good size for individual portions of crème brûlée and chocolate mousse, and the ridges on the outside helped with gripping. Cleaning was easy; we simply loaded them in the dishwasher and set it to wash. We did not notice any changes in the finish and the ramekins felt sturdy afterward. The finish on the ramekins did vary a lot and some had minor dents at the base and felt rough, but it didn't affect their performance at all. The bowls are usually available in a couple of sizes so you can go for the one that best suits your needs. Most importantly, the ramekins are made with quality porcelain that is safe to use inside the freezer, oven, and microwave, and you clean them in your dishwasher. Ramekins | I use these for everything! They work great in the oven and the air fryer and are perfectly sized for portion control. to 5 oz: These are also perfect for condiments but also good for serving mini-desserts. You can use them to serve the creme Brulé or pudding. Step Seven: Let the eggs cool and store them in a freezer safe bag. Grab one and take it to work! 🍴 Equipment The modern straight lines, square shape, and relatively smaller size of the Dowan square ramekins made these very handy for food prep and serving individual portions of dips, desserts, and nibbles. But we particularly liked using these for making crème brûlée, as the wider dimension and shorter height allowed for an amazing caramelized sugar to custard ratio.
