About this deal

Sir John Betjeman, in an introduction to Peter Haining's book about James, shows how influenced he was by James's work: Sometimes the horror of the discovery of the supernatural being is enough to chill the reader, sometimes the spirits involved, as in the Ash-Tree or Lost Hearts result in the death of the victim of their revenge.

The Collected Ghost Stories of M. R. James is an omnibus collection of ghost stories by English author M. R. James', published in 1931, bringing together all but four of his ghost stories (which had yet to be published).James, M. R. (1917). "Two Lives of St. Ethelbert, King and Martyr". The English Historical Review. 32 (126): 214–244. doi: 10.1093/ehr/XXXII.CXXVI.214. JSTOR 551656. The BFI released the complete set of Ghost Story for Christmas films plus related works such as both versions of Whistle and I'll Come to You on Region 2 DVD in 2012, in five volumes as well as a box set, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of M. R. James's birth. [60] James's statements about his actual beliefs about ghosts are ambiguous. He wrote, "I answer that I am prepared to consider evidence and accept it if it satisfies me." ISBN 978-019-956884-0 A Warning to the Curious, The Signalman and Miller's Whistle and I'll Come to You were released as individual VHS cassettes and Region 2 DVDs by the British Film Institute in 2002 and 2003. [57] [58] A number of the adaptations were made available in Region 4 format in Australia in 2011 and The Signalman is included as an extra on the Region 1 American DVD release of the 1995 BBC production of Hard Times. For Christmas 2011, the BFI featured the complete 1970s films in their Mediatheque centres. [59] James, M. R. (1925). Eton and King's. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press. pp. 13–97.
