About this deal

Confusingly, Extra Dry Prosecco has more sugar than Brut, making it feel rounder, fleshier, and more floral. Here, gingered petals, spicy herbs, and a glittery mid-palateadd levity. What: Prosecco connoisseurs (including us) rave about this Tesco Prosecco, not only because it tastes incredible, but because it’s just a tenner a bottle! The quality of the grapes, which come from the slopes of Valdobbiadene, translate into superior flavours, including peach, pear and white blossom, which go particularly well with canapès and summer salads. That’s not to say you can’t toast with it on Christmas morning, though – this Prosecco is definitely an all-season fizz. The single-vineyard wine is stonier, evenmonumental, with a quiet minerality and savory finish. It’sis a food wine, and dal Bianco suggested pairing it with something delicate, likefish crudo.

Again, the Extra Dry version of this wine is sweeter, yielding a richer, creamier flavor on its gingery mousse. They’re otherwise the same wine, but Masottinamakes both because, said dal Bianco, “People say they want Brut, but they actually want sugar.”What: It might be the cheapest prosecco on this list, but that’s definitely not to say it’s the least tasty. With undertones of pear, citrus and lychee, this Lidl Prosecco provides an elegantly-balanced sip that’s ideal for getting a party started. It also pairs well with cicchetti (but then, very few Proseccos don’t). What: Not only is Morrisons Prosecco tasty and affordable, it’s also suitable for vegans – bonus! Made with grapes sourced from the best area in Italy, Conegliano Valdobbiadene, Morrisons The Best Valdobbiadene delivers intense flavours of fresh green apple and pear and overtones of apple blossom. This is a big, creamy, fruity wine, with abundant ripe citrus, peach nectar, and candied grapefruit and orange peel. It’s an aperitif wine that dal Bianco suggested pairing with fish or mushroom risotto.

An IGT wine, secondary fermentation is in bottle, fermented with natural yeasts. Again, pear drop, typical Prosecco nose. A little bit of herbal character, but all very gentle. The palate has a softness and a very dry lemon fruit and acidity. Very nice in a gentle style that is also taut and precise. 88/100 These notes accompany our in-depth feature on Prosecco. For profiles of all of these estates please see Regional report: Prosecco, icing sugar and lemons. We reveal the medal-winning brands from this year’s Prosecco Masters, which comprised all styles and quality levels of this popular Italian fizz, and saw both Extra Brut and Extra Dry samples gain top scores, along with a couple of rosés too. What: For a super dry refreshing finish you can’t beat this M&S classic, perfumed with flavours of lemon, pear and apple. Made on an Italian family estate there has been particular attention paid to creating a drink with a really modern style. The dry finish brings floral notes which makes it great for pairing with desserts as well as having before a meal. There is a distinctive rise in quality and interest when one looks at Superiore DOCG wines, as our 2023 Gold and Master medal-winners show. These wines, which come from the caldera and rolling hills in the heart of Treviso around Conegliano-Valdobbiadene and Asolo, are sensationally delicious.

The medallists: Prosecco DOC (continued)

Dull, slightly metallic nose. More acidity, but the sweet .n. sour character is obvious. Slightly Alka Seltzer. 83 A touch of herbs and vegetal aromatics. The palate has good fruit and a nice brightness and freshness. This has sweetness and is a real crowd-pleaser, and also very good quality. 89 Subtle, steely, almost ozone-like salty minerality. Quite distinctive, with a little toffee quality coming through. The palate has good sweetness, and a ripe, almost buttery note, but a really fresh finish. A complex Prosecco this. 90 Itsactive bead delivers a fragrance of flowers and stone fruit, while a snap of wet stone keeps things serious. Good complexity.
