About this deal

All great advice from parents with ways to introduce the Sleepytot baby comforter to your little one. Baby soft toys are adorable but keep them out of the cot to avoid the risk of suffocation. They look cute on a shelf and your baby will enjoy looking at them, even talking to them later on. At first, choose one baby comforter that you know is safe and can slowly introduce during your baby’s first year. When your baby is sleeping in her cot, she is likely to be alone. For this reason, the cot should be absolutely safe. Take a read of our guide on choosing a cot for your baby’s nursery for guidance on choosing a baby cot. Safety is essential. Look for potential hazards like buttons for the eyes which can come loose and become a choking hazard.

Most parents I know who have taken the plunge and called it a day with the dummy have done just fine. In fact, after 3 to 7 days, it’s often like it never existed – or so I hear. Sounds too good to be true. When looking for a good baby comforter you should make sure that it is safe, washable, aesthetically pleasing, and replaceable and will do a good job. Make sure that they are soft, cuddly and friendly items as well. You don’t want your baby to choose their own only for you to find out they could choke on a loose button, or that it will get stained after one week or that once it gets lost it is gone for good.Whilst things get easier because you can help your child to understand why they have to do things and that they can be rewarded for positive behavior, pre-school age is a time full of changes and this can mean disturbed nights. You need less bedding than you think. A few fitted cot sheets and a baby sleeping bag will keep your little one safe and snug. For some babies, this is no problem. They use their dummy to fall asleep and then sleep all night so everyone’s happy. For others, it’s a different story. At first, baby sleeps really well. Usually until she’s about three or four months old. And then sleep cycles start to establish more clearly and before we know it, we’re getting up 5 times a night to replace the dummy. While it all worked out well for the funny father, sleep deprivation can often have a negative impact on any parent’s life. Your little one as precious as he or she is can often cause exhaustion and confusion. This is a key time in your baby’s life as she begins to understand you can go away and leave her and separation anxiety can set in. Baby comforters have been shown to make this time much easier for your baby (and you!).

Other developmental issues that may affect sleep are bedwetting and moving from a cot to bed. These are both preschool landmarks that some children will take to more easily than others. Be guided by your child; observe how excited or reluctant they are about going to bed without a nappy or moving to a bed. If they seem anxious it may be worth waiting a little while before making changes. ADAPTORS for use with MAM soothers are available . If you use a ringless soother you can find the adaptors in our shop. However, it is important not to use a soft toy/comforter that is large (& may cover baby’s face) or with objects (like beads) attached to it which may become loose or products that have small batteries in them that a child may swallow or choke on. Sleepytot's award winning baby comforters have little velcro paws which can hold onto dummies, soothers or teethers. The Millpond Child Sleep Clinic recommend them as a way of helping little ones find their dummies easily at night and return to sleep without fully waking. Please note that some cot bars are too wide for his paws to completely wrap around. If this is the case for you and you still wish to attach him to the cot in the early days we suggest you use a D ring.Sleepytot has little velcro paws that hold things like dummies and teethers to comfort and soothe your baby. Simply open the paws and attach a soother or teether and close the paws again! Fully machine washable at 30 degrees. As per the Red Nose safe sleep guidelines below, the Sleepytot should not be let unattended in the cot until baby is 7 months old. In many cases, this also coincides with baby's coordination development, giving them the ability to find their own dummy in the night with the aid of a Sleepytot. Sleepytot's of light stuffed and approx the size of a face washer, making them an ideal first comforter for your baby.

Newborn babies sleep a lot, but in short periods of time. They need to feed frequently and so they will wake every two to four hours for milk. Usually, a newborn baby will only be awake long enough for a feed and nappy change, before falling asleep again. During this time, don’t worry about things like “sleep training” your baby, or trying to get her to sleep through the night without a feed. Right now, she is learning about the world around her and you are building a relationship. Plus, she needs frequent feeds. She needs to know that she can trust you, that you will feed her when she’s hungry, and hold her when she’s crying. Here’s what I suggest to limit dummy dependency and avoid the nightly ‘dummy runs’. Use it for sleep times only, including nap time. If it’s used for comfort during the day, take it away once your baby is comforted.

Interestingly, research has shown that babies who use a soother might have sleep issues initially, before they learn how to find the dummy. But they later become brilliant sleepers. Dummies can be used to extend night time sleep and day time naps, to help babies relax into sleep and also encourage young toddlers to nap when it’s difficult to wind them down. Some gender differences were also revealed in the results – a large number of males (36%) stopped using their comfort items at 4-7 years; earlier then the majority of females who used their item until they were 8-10 years old (29%). In adulthood, 9% of females still use their comfort items, compared with 7% of males. Also, 17% of females said they would find it difficult to get rid of or destroy their childhood item compared with only 9% of males. Although it is hard to determine exactly why these differences occur, a suggestion is that it’s a result of different social pressures placed on genders during childhood. The type of item each gender seeks comfort in also varied, with 10% of females owning a doll as a comfort item in contrast to only 1% of males. I attached it to a dummy and gave it to him when I had my snuggles with him or let him sleep on me. So even when we were out and he needed to sleep, I’d just need to hold him, give him his Sleepytot and dummy and he’d settle and sleep easy.” Amberley It’s not just us who thinks our SleepyTot Baby comforter is a great solution to the sleep deprivation problem; we have very happy customers too: Now you know or agree that a good baby comforter can be of really help and use to your little one, how do you choose the right one?
