About this deal

Several years ago, Bushmills released a triple distilled malt whiskey that had been matured in a combination of sherry butts and European oak casks. With a distinctive bottle that puts this whiskey’s history front and centre, the Green Spot makes its mark with gusto. If this could be the equivalent of the Four Roses “Yellow Bottle” and they added a small batch (higher proof, NCF) and a Single Barrel (higher ABV, NCF, and obviously Single Barrel) my house would never be without a bottle.

Alex has been at Bushmills since 2004, initially working with Colm Egan in distillation and maturation. The golden signature of distiller Mark Andrews III (son of the original Mark Edwin Andrews who bought the eponymous Irish castle in 1966) the bottle adds an extra, familial touch.

The sherry influence seems a bit more pronounced on The Sexton and the whiskey seems a bit more mature.

A season-long partnership like this gives us so many meaningful opportunities to interact with and excite fans of The Walking Dead,” said Kim Granito, Executive Vice President of The Content Room for AMC Networks. might take a little more of the edge off … Hope distiller would consider producing a longer aged version and market accordingly. The Sexton Single Malt Irish Whiskey is a new face on the Irish Whiskey market, but unlike most new faces it’s not a blend, but a sherried single malt which was honestly a bit shocking to see. Exceptionally smooth and a safe bet for bourbon drinkers, our panel reckoned it would shine in shorter cocktails. The Sexton Single Malt is a brand that is perfectly aligned with the spirit and escapism of this series, and we’re excited to collaborate across all 24 of these final episodes in a variety of ways that delight this highly engaged and vibrant fan community. If I could change one thing, it would be for the distiller to add an additional variety that has been aged for longer so I could compare the two. There are layers of everything here, from dark chocolate and raisins to orange and mango (no, seriously), and a whiff of smoke more commonly found in Scottish, peaty drams. And, in addition to the more common sherry and bourbon casks, this is finished in Central American rum casks, giving this flagship bottle a noticeably-spicy flavour with overtones of smooth and sweet banana. A straightforward way to do this is with a delicious tipple, providing you are of drinking age and in moderation, of course.

The Sexton single malt Irish whiskey review | BBC Good Food

It is relatively smooth, but it still delivers a nice fruity punch due to the sherry cask maturation, mainly evident in the finish. Scottish labelling laws simply wouldn't allow a single malt to be produced at a distillery and then put out under a different brand name yet from the same distillery and by the same owners. On the palate, you’ll discover a very mild sweetness that slowly fades away, honeyed malt and oils coupled with a gentle wood finish. I know the tide is turning in Irish Whiskey to deliver their amazing malts in a purer form, but it’s a pity to see whiskeys that could be stellar diluted along the way.I’m hoping that this stuff is a big success and it prompts them to take the route of other distilleries and do a higher-proof, NCF (as you mentioned) release, and then eventually a barrel proof/strength or single-barrel release. There are countless variations of drinks on the market and knowing which one to go for is no easy task.

The bottle shape is quite clearly a homage to the famous hexagonal stones of the Giant's Causeway just a stone's throw from the distillery at Bushmills. Matured in sherry and American oak barrels and finished in aged French chestnut casks (an experimental combination that's paid off), it has a sweet chestnut and rich, toasted oak flavour, with a hint of cinnamon toast and raisin sweetness on the finish. The nose is immediately a bit weedy, quite green and vegetal, but undercut with notes of savory spices — think rosemary, not cloves — and a slightly nutty, winey character. On the palate, the whiskey is very smooth, with the pronounced palate weight and oily viscosity typical of sherried whiskey.Produced by creative agency Dead As We Know It and directed by Jake Scott of RSA Films, the spot portrays the brevity of human existence and encourages viewers to treat themselves to the things that bring them joy. After years of experimenting with different cask profiles and laying the liquid to rest for just the right amount of time, I’m pleased to share a rich and deeply flavourful Irish single malt that is ideal for mixing in cocktails. As The Official Whiskey of The Walking Dead, we are excited to connect with the show’s monumental and loyal followers over the highly anticipated final season and offer them fan-focused experiences and limited-edition retail merchandise unique to our partnership. Not too long ago Bushmill’s (located in the north of Ireland) released a sherry cask single malt for its Steamship series and Proximo has been the owner of Bushmill’s since 2014.
