About this deal

A last word on the gaming latency, which is an improvement over other Toshiba TVs I’ve tested. Previously there was no difference when the game mode was switched on, but the UK31 offers a swift 10.3ms – fast enough for blink and you’ll miss it controller response. The picture quality could use more tuning as colours in Gran Turismo 7 are too vividly represented. Picture quality Immerse yourself in the on-screen actions with one of Toshiba's Dolby Vision compatible TV's. The preffered HDR Video format of movie makers around the world, Dolby Vision uses dynamic metadata to read and calculate exactly the right brightness level for every TV frame. There are five picture modes to choose from when streaming non-Dolby supported content – Natural, Cinema, Game, Sports and Dynamic. A TV with down firing stereo speakers using Dolby Atmos audio processing will provide breathtaking sound that has impressive clarity, richness, detail and depth. You can have the feel of a cinema in your own home, with the Dolby Atmos producing sound solutions like no other. The use of direct LED lighting, where the LEDs sit right behind the screen rather than around the edges, joins the extensive HDR support in boding well for the 50UK3163DB’s picture quality, as this approach typically yields better contrast than lighting systems that use LEDs ranged around the picture’s edges.

Head to the Game setting, which defaults almost all the picture processing technologies to the off position, and you’ll get something bright and natural. A great example of what we’re talking about can be seen in the sequence in It where Georgie chases his ill-fated boat down a rain-soaked street. On the 50UK3163DB every raindrop splash is accompanied by a marked HDR gleam, while the light reflecting on the windows of the houses and parked cars blares out with all the intensity you’d expect to see if you were there sploshing down the street after poor Georgie. This issue can lead to some colours in dark scenes looking a little ‘polluted’ by greyness too – though at least neither the greyness nor any over-aggressive work by the Tru Micro Dimming system results in any significant loss of shadow detail. The 50UK3163DB isn’t just unexpectedly bold with HDR, either. It also gets impressive value from its native 4K resolution. Good-quality native 4K sources, especially 4K Blu-rays, look much richer in texture, clarity and depth than HD images do, despite the 50-inch screen being fairly small by today’s 4K standards. While you won’t be blown away by the audio that the UK31 can produce, the sound quality of its 20W speaker system is more than enough to get the job done for those on a tight budget. Going the whole Dolby hog by also bringing Atmos sound on board merely underlines the feeling that Toshiba is willing to go the extra mile even with a TV as affordable as the 50UK3163DB to give customers an experience it likely couldn’t muster without ‘third party’ help. Featuring Toshiba’s TRU Picture technology, the Toshiba 43UK3163DB offers UHD 4 K resolution for the crispest images possible. More than this, though, Toshiba's 4K UHD Upscaler, takes standard content and upscales the image giving your Blu-rays, in particular, a whole new lease of life. Much the same as we’ve come to expect from the TV brand in past few years – a focus on affordability and sprinkling of premium features.Toshiba has also recently introduced an Ambient Screen Mode called ‘Alexa Home Screen’ for its Alexa Built-In models. This acts as a customisable screensaver feature when the TV is in standby mode, displaying information such as the time, weather and calendar events.

In fact, the only HDMI 2.1-related feature the 50UK3163DB’s HDMIs do support is automatic low latency mode switching, so that the TV can activate its low input lag game mode when a game source is detected. This results in a seriously good input lag figure of just 10.1ms. Die playing in Call Of Duty on the Toshiba 50UK3163DB and you’ve only got yourself to blame.Chat Widget offers out-of-the-box cookie consent management, see here: Enabling cookie consent for the Chat widget & Web SDK At 43in, it’s the baby of a three-strong line up – the other options are 50in and 58in screens – and it’s fully fitted with HDR10 and Dolby Vision, a Dolby Atmos-badged sound system (produced in conjunction with Onkyo) and even a built-in microphone for Alexa and Google Assistant voice interaction. There aren’t many more stops that Toshiba could have pulled out here. Moving on to Dolby Vision-supported content and Cinema mode is replaced with Dolby Vision Dark and Dolby Vision Bright. Dolby Vision Bright is designed to be used in rooms with a lot of ambient light, while Dark is best suited to rooms that are more, well, dark.

Basically, there’s seldom anything in the 50UK3163DB’s sound profile that actively distracts you from what you’re watching, while there’s actually quite a bit that actively tries to involve you. VerdictDespite being the flagship entry in the company’s 2021 TV lineup, the Toshiba UK31 is an eminently affordable option for those seeking a 4K HDR television. Using this menu you can discover and pair devices that use Bluetooth wireless technology, and start to use them with the TV. Follow the on-screen instructions, and then start the device discovery. A list of available Bluetooth devices will be displayed. Select the device you want to connect from the list, and press the OK button to pair the device. Finally in the negative column, motion handling is only solid rather than great, even with the Tru Motion feature active.
