About this deal

Follow these handy tips from plastic product providers The Plastic People, and your acrylic or products made from it will continue to shine.Light scratches, as you can imagine, are much easier to combat than deep ones. It’s worth noting that scratches can be removed more easily from acrylic than polycarbonate, so you may not have as much success if the damaged material is a polycarbonate sheet. Naturally, lighter scratches can be buffed out more easily than deeper ones. Make sure that the acrylic sheet is cleaned either with dish soap or Novus No. 1. Then, follow this procedure to remove moderately deep (under 5 mm) scratches from acrylic:

Cleaning Specialist Expert Interview. 15 December 2020. Gently rub it in a circular motion all around the scratch. This will remove any dirt and grease, making it easier to get rid of the scratch. Dry the area with a clean, dry cloth when you’re done. [2] X Research source You can use a microfiber towel. [3] X Expert Source Jon Gholian The procedure to repair deeper scratches is similar to the process to repair light scratches, except we’re adding two more items – 600 grit sandpaper and Novus No. 3. Collect the following items: Wet a soft cleaning cloth with warm water. Use a cleaning cloth made of a soft material, such as cotton or microfiber. [6] X Expert Source Claudia & Angelo Zimmermann Alternate between the above two steps for about three minutes. Your acrylic may still look scratched – but we’re not done yet! a machine polisher. Despite this, it worked well with just hand application, making good improvements to the overall shine in its section. Much like Auto Finesse’s Tripple, it could not make the same inroads on the blade marks as our top two, but it did enoughto secure a top-four finish.Wet one piece of 600 grit sandpaper - run it over the scratched area in a circular motion and repeat with a dry piece of 600 grit sandpaper too. Rub with both wet and dry sandpapers for around 3 to 3 minutes. Don't worry if your acrylic looks more frosty or scratched - this will go away during the process. The depth of a scratch dictates how to remove it. Generally, if you run your fingernail over the scratch and the nail doesn’t hook, it’s shallow enough to be successfully treated with light abrasives, such as toothpaste or baking soda. If the nail does catch, however, it’s a deeper scratch that will require a series of passes with a super-fine grit wet sandpaper. STEP 2: Get it squeaky clean. As soon you're done applying the scratch remover to the plexiglass, use a lint-free cleaning cloth to wipe any excess off. Work in small circles over the surface of your plexiglass. Once the scratch remover is off of your piece, you won't be able to see the scratches anymore. [11] X Research source However, if the scratch is any deeper than 5mm, it’s probably not worth doing as it’s unlikely to buff out. Likewise, if the scratches cover more than 30% to 50% of the area, or of the acrylic is very old, the cost of replacing the item or pane of acrylic probably will outweigh the effort required to fix it. For light scratches on acrylic By using a few simple techniques, along with Novus 1; Plastic Clean and Shine, Novus 2; Fine Scratch Remover, and Novus 3; Heavy Scratch Remover, you can actually add life to plastic and keep it looking new. While the process is similar to the one above, this time you’ll begin with 600 grit sandpaper. As before, wet one piece of 600 grit sandpaper and use circular motions over the scratched area for around three minutes, alternating with a dry piece as well. Next, do the same with the 800 grit paper for a further few minutes and finish with the 1200 paper until the scratches have disappeared. Dry the area with a clean cloth and then restore the shine with the acrylic polish. Soak a piece of 800-grit wet/dry sandpaper in water for several minutes until saturated. Use a gentle, circular motion to sand the area, making sure not to apply too much pressure or you could introduce new scratches. Rinse between passes and re-wet the sandpaper as needed throughout the process. STEP 5: Go for a finer grit. div>
