Just as you wouldn’t leave your car interior or bodywork dirty for months on end, you shouldn’t take liberties with your engine. Fuel economy can be reduced by the deposits which build up on your fuel injectors during combustion. This is a result of the varying fuel qualities available in the UK and the amount of additives they contain. The initial baseline figure of 30mpg is pretty indicative of my usual fuel economy result, although usually that’s relying on the car’s trip computer reading rather than direct measurement. There are loads of different specs of engine oil represented by different letters – and this is often where buying engine oil can get confusing. He told me that he only ever found one product that made any positive difference, although in a modest way.
