However, I read this book for the first time today in a Nursery setting and the children really enjoyed it, so I have to say, my review/rating is more based on that evidence than my personal response. The animals try problem solving to think of ways to free the duck but none of them seem to be working. Nice illustrations, and on re-reading a tempo and rhythm is becoming evident that makes it an enjoyable read.

The way the story rhymes keeps the children's attention and makes it easy to read and is a fun way to learn a bit about rhyming words with them being so noticeable in this story. In that identification, the Stillness and Love of our Original State is overshadowed by the suffering of the Personality.

We then talked about how we would have to wash and clean the toys after they has been stuck in the muck.

But, then what the duck does next is the real kicker - drives away leaving everyone else in the muck. this large-size book about Eddie and his teddy bear, Freddie, will endear itself to pint-size preschoolers. if I'm not mistaken, the board book version doesn't omit anything, it just condenses the story onto fewer pages(by squishing three pages onto one, think comic book style). This is a nice story that is not too long or detailed but the children enjoy it and the silliness of seeing all the animals trying to help duck in an unusual situation. He faced a lot of challenges being from African descent, and losing his mother and father by the age of 9, but he didn’t let that stand in his way. Toddlers follow the texts and storyline easily, with clear pictures illustrating each of those lines.
