About this deal

Find the hottest teen books, connect with your favorite YA authors and meet new friends who share your reading interests! Jake and Lexi are the most unlikely pairing conceivable and their opinions on everything differ making it difficult to swallow their twenty-five year history with Lexi a holier-than-thou do-gooder and impetuous Jake undermining everything she says. It is difficult to suspend disbelief and think that some of these issues they are faced with wouldn’t have cropped up before. The majority of the novel is narrated in the first-person by either Lexi or Emily, neither of whom I entirely connected with. Lexi is weak-willed and does very little to arrest the tide of Jake’s largesse and is more of a bystander to events than an active participant. Meanwhile Emily’s affected teen speak is so obviously penned by an older person that I found myself cringing. Published by HQ in May 2020. Available now from good bookshops, including Southampton’s radical independent bookshop October Books octoberbooks.org

Apart from this, I did actually enjoy the book and the twists and turns of the plot. A good book for a holiday read . Imagine winning the lottery after you’ve just had a falling out with your best friends that you just happened to be in a lottery syndicate with the week before. Cammie McGovern seems to have become an auto-read author for me as of late. There's something about her novels where I find myself really connecting to her characters and their personal situations. Being that this was her first middle grade novel, I was a bit worried about how this was going to shake up. Turns out, it was fantastic ride that made me shed a few tears! This book has a lot going on. Autistic siblings, parent with serious health issues, cliques beginning in school, and a little bit of "who am I?" Quite naturally, the other four want part of the winnings. It seems only fair. They had a lottery syndicate that they all once took very seriously. Just because they did not join in that past week should not have excluded them part of the pot. How far will Lexi and Jake - and the others - go when it comes to those millions? A compelling take on one of those “what if” scenarios that we’ve all wondered about. Addictive, provocative and thoroughly relatable – a brilliantly crafted reminder to be careful what you wish for’ TM Logan

Lexi and Jake carry on and BINGO ( and here as readers we need that pinch of salt ) the next week....they win!For fifteen years, Lexi and Jake have played the same six numbers with their friends, the Pearsons and the Heathcotes. Over dinner parties, fish & chip suppers and summer barbecues, they've discussed the important stuff - the kids, marriages, jobs and houses - and they've laughed off their disappointment when they failed to win anything more than a tenner. I love something with a bit of drama and something that will have me itching to find out what is going to happen. Great review, Thanks for sharing x I just love Adele Parks from the first book of hers I read years ago I am yet to find one I don't love.
