In Nueva Vista, Ash's group is revealed to be looking for the Shadow Gateway, the barrier keeping the Shadows of the Night out of the EverRealm. Esteban is apprehensive as the Shadows of the Night nearly destroyed the Kingdom of Maru, Ash tells him that's why she wants to recruit them. When Esteban questions how she can be sure the Shadows will help them she tells him that they will do so out of gratitude for freeing them. Chatana finds a clue that reveals that the Gateway is under the sea. Upon their arrival, Ash uses her magic to reveal the Gateway.

In " A Tale of Two Scepters", after Shuriki has gotten her hands on the Scepter of Night, Elena goes to Vallestrella to gets lessons from Quita Moz and three other sunbirds; Lama, Hool, and Qapa. A new spell was 'Farsight'. Elena says the word and thinks of someone to view no matter how far away they are. Elena already knew Blaze, but they teach her how to sustain it and hold the blaster longer by keeping the word in her head. They also tell her the Scepters of Light and Night have spells with opposing abilities. Whichever Scepter casts a spell, the other could reverse it with ease. Fiero, an evil wizard, enters the royal palace, turning the royal court into stone. Elena has to rely upon the untested royal wizard, Mateo, to save the day.
