About this deal

Alfie is delighted to be invited to Bernard's birthday party, although he feels a bit nervous about going on his own. The pre-loved books are carefully cleaned and maintained offering a wide variety of general and specialist titles from children's to adults. This story is about a little boy Alfie, and his sister Annie Rose who is learning to walk, and their feet.

In the end, Alfie had his yellow rain boots on the wrong foot; his mom paints an L on the left rain boot and an R on the right rain boot. Shirley Hughes is the illustrator of more than two hundred children’s books and has won many prestigious awards, including the Kate Greenaway Medal twice. Shirley Hughes was born in West Kirby, near Liverpool, in 1927, and studied fashion and dress design at Liverpool Art School, before continuing her studies at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art in Oxford. Any old weather is Alfie weather and as Alfie demonstrates, there's always lots to do come rain or shine. After reading this book, the teacher could encourage students to locate items in the classroom that start with the letters L or R. Somehow, a brother and sister relationship, the importance of boots for keeping your feet dry, a discussion about left feet and right feet, the delights of sploshing in puddles, and the wonder of childhood are all warmly described in one simple little book. She sometimes gets cross when she loses things or when there are too many toys lying all over the floor. Shirley Hughes has written more than 200 books, creating enduring characters like Alfie and Dogger, who have thrilled children and adults alike with their tales of growing up and everyday discovery.

This one we found he was a little old for, suited more to 2 yrs perhaps, so his little brother will have it. The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged. Shirley Hughes is the master at understanding and depicting the importance and brilliance in the every day moments of life. Her books include the wordless picture book Up and Up, collection of rhymes and poems Out and About, and for the very young The Nursery Collection. Couldn't believe it when my daughter not only remembered all of this particular book and actually still had it with others of her favourite books. She also collaborated with her daughter, Clara Vulliamy, on the Dixie O'Day series; which saw Shirley with an illustrator for the first time with Shirley writing the text and Clara creating the illustrations. Shirley Hughes tells this warm reassuring story about moving house with a great understanding of the young child's viewpoint.
